Being that I have lost all touch with reality, I think I need another rifle. A custom, light weight rifle, built off the 700 short action. The problem is that I can't decide on a caliber. The barrel length will be a max of 23".
7mm-08 Ackley Improved or the 7mm Grady Precision Cartridge? Why should I choose one over the other? I plan on shooting 175 grain bullets.
Thanks for the input.

Get with Cody Farr in West Point, UT. He has a 7mm-08 based round that is simply amazing. The 7mm Hadly Imp...Very impressive speeds out of a small cartridge...just to add another factor to the equation. http://www.codyscustomguns.com/

Just how much do you suppose we can squeeze out of a 7mm-08 by improving it in terms of terminal performance and does it merit such high praise? I won't take the time to look it up because for my money I'd be stepping up, way up, not sideways.

A general, do-all short action hunting rifle with at least 1800+fps at 300 yards for use on deer and black bear.

Standard 708 will double that distance on that game if the shooter threads vitals. No need to chase speed. Plenty for your needs.

If the Norma brass comes available before my new benchmark barrel shows up 284 is looking like a no brainier if not its 7-08 AI due to my stock of nearly 10000 pieces of 308 laying around. Can't get a link but bullet.com is getting a million Norma 284 cases they should be in stock soon
