What is your preferred bullet for deer in any of the big 30's?
Only a fool would sell an accurate .30-06

I really like Barnes 130s and 150s for 300 WM deer loads. Shooting deer at short range with a 300 WM is a very severe test for bullets and most bullets will make a really nasty hole inside fifty yards. The Barnes seem not to show any difference at 25 feet or 300 yards.

I've shot 4-5 deer with a 300 WSM and 180 Partitions and the combination works great. Muzzle velocity around 2950-3000fps so obviously not in uber-mag territory.

I have shot deer with every thing from the 125 gr. Sierra to the 220 WW Silvertip in my old .300..
As Sam says the 180 Partition works fine, as do 200's.. For open country hunting my favorites have been the 150 gr. Nosler BTBT and the 165 Sierra HPBT.. I used these in the days before range finders, and even since getting my range finder..
Most of my hunting is on public land, and often a shot must be taken quickly or not at all.. The flat traj. of these bullets makes shooting even to long distance much easier..
When I hunted the Brownsville area many years ago.. I used 180 Part. and my pal used 200 gr. Part.. Both did an excellent job with minimal meat loss.

Good info thread I hope. I'm just about out of my old standbys. The 150gr Nosler Soild Base. Tried the 180 Hornady because I figured since Weatherby used them they would suit me but not.

180g Accubonds in my previous .300 WM, the .300 WM Redneck built for me loves 150g Barnes TTSX at just under 3300 fps.

The 150gr ttsx at 3300fps is the one for me. Anything from deer to elk.

I've shot a BUNCH of deer with a 300 WSM. About any bullet that expands well will kill a deer so the big issue is accuracy. Last year I tried 165 gr Sierra HPBT's. It worked great at 30-30 range. I can't recommend AB's. I've shot several deer with 180 AB's and destroyed way too much meat each time.

My wife shoots 180 Sierra game kings out of her 300 WSM, kills everything from whitetail to moose.
I shoot the 200 Sierra gameking out of my 300 WBY. I bought some 200 gr Nosler Partitions to try out but the Sierra's shoot so good and kill so well and haven't had a need to try the Nosler. I'm sure they would work good also.

I have killed a bunch of deer with the 165 grain Sierra BTSP and 165 grain Nosler BT loaded to 3000-3100 fps out of the .300 Winchester.

I shoot factory 150gr PowerPoint's. Shoot so good, cheap, and perform very well. Ive killed deer from 70yards-150 yards all drt. Poped a coyote last season at 75 yards now that was a little messy
Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

My M70 Super Grade 300 Win mag loved these things. I will say this. Stay away from the shoulder bones. I took a running shot on a mature buck with the CT180 a few years ago. The range was only 40 yds +/- a couple yards. Took out both shoulders. When we pulled the hide off in the spring house it sounded like some one dropped a china tea cup on the floor for bone frags. There were jacket fragments among the bones. Some made it through to exit, but it shed a little on the way. I did have them souped up pretty well. These were very early production CTs. I never sectioned one of the early ones,so I can't say what for jackets they had. That buck went down hard and slid on his brisket for 50 or 60 feet. As close to a bang flop as you could get on a running deer. Devastating to say the least.

I've used a lot of things, but a 180 Ballistic Tip in a .300 Win is about as good as it gets for deer. My .300 Weatherby stubbornly refuses to shoot the Ballistic Tips(or any boat-tail except the TSX) but is very good with 180 Hornady Interlocks and Nosler Partitions. The Hornadys absolutely pile drive whitetail and mulies.
Currently I'm using the Ballistic-tip in the WSM and RUM as well for deer sized stuff. I can't help noticing that the little 300 WSM with the Ballistic Tip brings everything to 500 that the 300 'bee with a 180 interlock does, but I ignore it and eventually the WTF and why bother questions fade away. Sometimes its best not to think to much.
Life begins at 40. Recoil begins at "Over 40" Coincidence? I don't think so.

I recently bought a custom rifle that is chambered in . 300 win mag because I liked the rifle, the caliber was not exactly what I wanted. The rifle is awesome though although I wished it was a . 270 or 3006.
What's the consensus on .300 win mag that won't destroy small deer

Around here, consensus is hard to come by...

Consensus isn't needed. In any of the 300 mags, any expanding bullet that will shoot well will cleanly take a deer at whatever range the shooter can reliably hit it.
