I axed a guy how he liked his Dodge. His reply was that it was kinda like shacking up with a big fat black gal.

What do you mean, I axed.

Well, he sez, I like it but I'm ashamed of it.

My own take on the original "1st gen" 5.9s ? (and I own a pair of em')

The engine ...Vaughn Beal's American Vision

The truck ...Lee Iacoca's Mexican wet dream

Had an 84 Dodge prospector, great mtn truck, sucked on the highway. Only thing was it would burn up a battery every 16 to 18 months. Everything else was just great. Have a 1500 now, original battery lasted 13 years, rest of it not so well.

When one of my few friends showed up in my driveway one day to show off his brand new shiny Dodge truck I told him the same thing that my Dad told me when I was looking to buy one. "It takes more than a Cummins engine to make a truck out of a Dodge." Nuff said.

The best joke for you on a Dodge , is to buy one.

I drove Ford company trucks for over thirty years, starting with in line sixes and ending up with a couple of 7.5 Diesels.
Even owned a couple myself.
Damn fine trucks and I loved the 7.5. The last one had 245K on it when I turned it in and was running as good as new.
If Ford had not discontinued the 7.5 at the time I got ready to retire I would be driving one now, but they went to the crappy 6.9 (not my words, those are from a dealer service tech)
I'm driving a '06 Dodge 2500 Cummins, six speed manual trans, with currently 91K, I use it mostly as a hunt/haul rig so not a lot of miles.
It's as good any truck I ever drove.

BTW, my car? It's a Ford.

Dodge/Mopar products always looked tinny and cheap. They reminded me of rolling stock cobbled up to fulfill the lowest bid on military contract.

I missed that one at the dealer. I'm sure it would have helped the shiety transmission and front end.

Huh?

I drove a number of trucks during that time, the last two of which had the 7.5 engine.
Simple enough now?

No, because ford never had a 7.5 diesel. The 7.5/460 was a gas engine

You're absolutely right, guess I had a brain fart.
Let's try 7.3 engine. Maybe I've been retired too long.
Thanks for the correction.
Still, the SEVEN POINT THREE, was hell of a good engine.

heres a dodge joke

2005 1500 slt 4x4 with 4.7l engine bought in 2011 with 68k-ish miles. by the time it went to the ford dealer last fall with 90k-ish miles on a trade-in it had:

bad pinion gear
bad ball joint
tranny slipping
door panels falling apart
exhaust rotted off
total body rot all around
oil pan rotted out
rear bumper rotted out
11 mpg if i took it easy
almost no power on hills
the kicker was it stalled at 30mph with my kid driving. it went away within 2 weeks.

never again. and that ain't no joke.
