Does anyone know the difference between the new "sporter" rifle and the 24b?

I have no idea.

But based off of what their catalog says, I'm guessing it is going to be their entry level rifle. Looks like it comes in the basic calibers and doesn't have the options for stainless steel or different stock colors. That tells me it is going to be their low priced model. Hopefully it retails for less than $1000.

I don't think that the wholesale price is less than $1,000 per unit.

The best retail price that I've seen in person for a Forbes NIB was $1,250, with the common retail asking price around $1,400.

Be aware the the Forbes rifles on the market today are not built by Mr. Forbes. He sold the company to another company(2nd time) and the Forbes of today are a off the shelf production firearm.

Is that for the new Sporter or the 24B?

I own two 24B's so obviously I am aware of their price. Haven't seen a Sporter yet though.

It does look like it will be an "entry level" rifle from Forbes. I just wonder what features will be left off. From the pic it looks like it will be only available in the charcoal stock with all chrome moly metal and an unfluted bolt (good in my opinion). I just hope the stock and barrels are the same as the 24b, and it will be under $1k. Then I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Regarding the Forbes Sporter, page 1 of the 2015 Forbes catalog reads; "For more information, track down Rick Campbell at 207-899-3254."

I just called him and we had a nice conversation.

Forbes has always been a production rifle. I have heard that Melvin put some of the early rifles together, but they were never marketed as anything but a production clone of his ULA/NULA custom rifles.

He said that the barrel action will be the same as the other Forbes rifles, except for the bolt, and that the stock and trigger will be different. They haven't found, or settled on, a vendor for the trigger yet, but hope to have the Sporters on dealers' shelves in time for November deer hunting. Since they don't know what the trigger is going to cost, they don't know what the wholesale and suggested retail prices are yet.

He did say that the Forbes Sporter wouldn't be a revision of the CLR and he found a lot more fault with the CLR than I have experienced.

Pretty much, but "production" anything has got to be, by design, less expensive than a "custom" anything.

Mr. Campbell indicated that the Forbes Sporter is intended to sell in the same price range as the Remington 700, giving buyers a lighter rifle option.

Exercising 20/20 hindsight, the long discontinued 700 Ti looks like it was a heck of a deal in light of today's prices.

Well, he said it isn't a revision of the CLR....but it's sounds pretty close.

I'd rather they stick to the rifles they were making, make them a little better and in more numbers...but understand if they need to do this to keep the lights on.

Although he didn't specifically say so, Mr. Campbell gave me the impression that the stock would be fiberglass, rather than injection molded like the CLR. I've owned 4 or 5 CLRs, still have 3, and don't find the factory stock to be bad. I never seem to have a problem sending $$ to McM so that I can restock a Remington, but the mood hasn't moved me to send $$ to Mr. Forbes to restock a CLR with a NULA stock.

The last time that I asked, it was about $500 for the stock and $150 for the trigger upgrades.

Yup - $450 for him to send you a drop in stock and $500 for him to bed it for you.

I have one coming my way for a CLR.
