I'll start this thing off by saying I'll be using mine here on my small 12 acre place for deer here in the hill country of Texas. My place is small but I have quite a few deer living around and coming thru my place each year. Once I get my feeder going there's hardly a day that goes by that I don't have deer in my back pasture. Going to be using the 200gr Hornady, Fusion or Speer. Should get the job done. Haven't killed one of those rascals in two years. powdr

Not a gun writer but I already used mine in June with 180 Ballistic Tips on a free range Axis hunt. Stumbled on a blackbuck too. I'll probably use the same combo on my 50 acres in East Texas for whitetail & hogs.

I've decided to use my 7.62/.338 Federal instead.
Brass is easily formed from standard .308 brass.
What fresh Hell is this?

I may just use the 7.62x63 forming those cases is pretty simple also.

Still plan on using mine this year. 180 BT over 8208 XBR. ~2800FPS. Hardest bullets I've ever had to get to shoot well. They are shooting acceptably so I'd like to give them a run.

MRC .338Federal with 185gr TTSX or Accubond 200gr.
However, Kimber .300Savage 130gr TTSX will have the initial go.

Ruger All Weather Hawkeye. I shot a 7 point whitetail with 200 grain Hornadys in NY 2 years ago and cow moose with 210 grain Nosler Partitions in Newfoundland with it last year. I'm going to work up a load with the 185 grain TTSX's I bought pretty soon. I really like that rifle/cartridge combo.

My Tikka and I will try for an elk in the San Juan Mts in October. Need to roll some ammo with the 185 gr Barnes and get er ready. It will be our first date.

Pretty sure I'll be using my Jeff O stocked (Blue swirly) Mickey built 338 Fed this season. Deer around here are colorblind, so no worries. 185 TTSX.

The 160TTSX is a fine bullet too. Accurate, fast and deadly. To me, it's the perfect "x" for deer from the Federal...

Bought a Ruger 338 Fed. on caliber closeout as a spare rifle to have in camp because of price and I had an old scope to fit a short action, and I mostly hunt deer and elk. But after a little good shooting, replaced the old scope with a Leupold 1x4. I have shot quite a bit of game under 100 yards and very little over 250 yards, even in sagebrush country, so the rifle, scope and caliber combo is right for me. I am carrying the Ruger more each year and it will be my constant companion this elk season. No, I haven't shot an elk with it yet, but the 200 grain Fusion load knocks deer right down.

Brass is easily formed from standard .308 brass. What's the difference between that and the straight .338 Federal? Never used either (as you can tell) but I thought 338 Federal can be formed from 308 brass? Or is it longer?
