Great pic Sir.

Interesting. Last night I finished up at work earlier than I expected to, but later engagements meant it didn't make sense for me to leave the city; so I drove to a parking lot and sat in the bed of my truck enjoying a cigar and watching the sun set.

Not as nice as the Arizona one, maybe, but it got more interesting toward the end, with some really fine-grained features that my cell phone camera couldn't seem to capture.

Having seen beautiful sunsets in forty-seven states and beaucoup other countries, I have to come down to the notion that the key elements are the sun and the sky not where your butt happens to be, geographically, when the sun goes down.

Haven't seen any at sea yet.

Darn it!

(Have seen 'em from the air, though. Beautiful!)

There've been times when I was thankful that I didn't have a camera with me just wanted to absorb the beauty without being distracted, and appreciated the convenient excuse for not having photographed it. Didn't want the photograph later to blunt the memory. From sex to sunsets, the real thing is usually so much richer than any photograph can ever be.

Sunrises are lovely, too. I often wonder why we wax so lyrical over sunsets while we tend to ignore sunrises or take 'em for granted.

"Red sky at morning, sailors take warning!"

Beautiful sunset...
They are hypnotic for me. I could stare at them forever... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Have to take that back, sort of. I've seen 'em over the Atlantic (from the air) and the Pacific oceans, and over the Bering, Chukchi, and Red seas, but from terra firma, not from the sea. I have a feeling that the sight is quite different somehow when you're out there on the sea yourself.

Even saw one over Siberia one summer evening, from high in the air, but was mainly absorbed with thankfulness that I was over US or international waters at the time, not over there. That was an especially lovely sunset, and I have to admit that where my butt was, geographically, added an element to its beauty.

Mother nature can be cruel at times -

The prettiest sunrises/sets we have in Arizona is when there's dust in the air or smoke from Kalifornie fires.

Thanks Cretch, I was starting to think all sunsets had street lamps in them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hey gang,

I took this one on the last day of work as I was getting off the plane. It's not the prettiest of sunsets, but this one in particular is close to my heart. its not everyday a person can get off a plane that you've worked in/on for 7 months and take a picture of a sunset on your last day. It was Great!!

gotta love the desert sunsets.

Surely you've heard the story about when 'The Bear' died and went to heaven. The Lord welcomed him and said, "Let me show you to your house and then I'll show you around." Bear's 'house' was really a small, but beautiful, white cottage and he tried to hide his disappointment. Surely the Lord knew who he was. They walked on down the street paved with gold and came to a beautiful mansion set on a high hill with a long, curving driveway, lined with Auburn flags every 10 feet with Jim Fyffe screaming 'TOUCHDOWN AUBURN' constantly over loudspeakers. The Auburn fight song was playing in the background and crowds cheering was non-stop. Bear Bryant stopped with his mouth open. He turned to the Lord and said, "I can't help it. I'm disappointed that my house is a simple cottage but Shug Jordan's house is magnificent. It's really a letdown." Tears began to form in his eyes. The Lord put his arm around Bear's shoulders and comforted him by saying, "Paul, that's not Shug's house as you thought, that's MY house."
