I lost an old friend and hunting partner on Monday.
There'll be an empty chair around the campfire at elk camp this year and every year here on out I reckon.
He was with me when I shot my first elk and I was there when he shot his last elk.
He was a good man & good husband and father.
His name is Gene.

Godspeed, Gene.
The good ones stay with you.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I know how you feel.
Lost one of my brothers in 95 and hunting has not been the same since. But lots of memories and that helps keep me going. Although I am sitting here with two weeks off and can't go hunting and am painting the inside of the house instead. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I'm sorry to hear that. He'll hunt the biggest elk in the best places until you join him someday. Godspeed Gene; save us a spot at your new campfire.

Obviously irreplaceable and no words can suffice. Try recruiting an appreciative youngster, and he/she might draft a similar note some day. 1Minute.

ELKHUNTER--That spot by by your campfire might be empty of a body, but that same spot is filled with hundreds of lifelong memories, i'm sure. Sorry for your loss. Good hunting companions are always a difficult loss. Bob

Very sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in the stories you tell of Gene.

Sorry to hear that! Sounds like you have lots of great memories. They are priceless.

Your memory of Gene will keep him alive, and keep a smile on your face. Make a new friend, and introduce him to your pasttime.... .That will keep the memory alive My prayers will be with you and yours.
If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer but how he hunted it.

Godspeed to your partner. I lost a great hunting partner a few years back. I have great memories as I am sure you do and they always come up during the seasons. Our prayers are with you.

Every fall I put a post in to remember our dearly departed friends and campmates who've gone on to a far better place. I always mention my dad, who taught me everything I ever learned about hunting. I was just thinking it's time to put the post up again, as deer seasons open up, and the camps begin to fill up with hunters. There will always be an empty spot at the table, or next to the fire, but there will also always be a new up and comer ready to fill those very big shoes. Godspeed to your friend, Gene, and to all the groups that lost a hunting buddy this year. They've gone on to a far better place, where the hills aren't so steep, and there's a big buck or elk waiting for them. Rest in peace dear friends, and Dad-I have no doubt that we will hunt together again some day.
