I used Mule Deer's Ramshot Hunter load with 180 Accubonds to take my cow elk last November. 58.5 grains worked best in my rifle.

Velocity runs from 2750 in "slow" 22-inch barrels to 2800+ in most 24's. Accuracy ix excellent and the load performs about the same in a wide variety of temperatures.

Thanks John, I'll try it out this weekend with Nosler Pt

John,
Do you favor any specific primer with that load to consistently ignite that powder? Thanks!

Wally,

Have usually used the Winchester Large Rifle primer, which is hotter than most non-magnum primers, and had excellent results. But if a standard primer doesn't provide the accuracy desired with Ramshot rifle primers, a magnum primer usually tightens things up.

With the recent iffiness of Winchester LR primers, and the erratic availability of Federal 215's, I've been using a lot of CCI 250's with excellent results.

There are moose bones weathered and scattered hither in various places as a result of the collision of 180 grains of lead and copper propelled by H4831…around 60 grains usually. However the last two moose I've brought home failed to survive a 180 E-Tip (last winter) and a 180 Partition (two winters previous) which were delivered by 58 grain payloads of Hunter:

John,

I first happened across this load for 180s in your article on reloading the 30-06. Last time I tried the link I couldn't get to the article. Is it still available somewhere?

I run 56 gr. of H4350 with a velocity of 2730 fps with the 180gr. Nosler partition, so it's right in between bwinters load and yours. I get excellent accuracy and it kills deer and elk well enough:

I also run 57gr. of the same powder with the 180gr. Winchester powerpoints. It works very well on deer:

I've been playing with a couple of 30-06's lately using Accurate Arms 4350.With a 180gr Nosler Ballistic Tip,I loaded 57.0grs of AA-4350,WMLR primer,Winchester case,I was getting 2873fps,excellent groups @ 100 and 200yds,no pressure signs with either rifle. The AA-4350 seems to be a great powder for the 30-06.57.0grs fills the case just below the neck. With 165gr bullets I'm loading 58.5grs @ 2930fps and it fills the case right at the bottom of the neck. With 150gr bullets,I'm loading 60.0grs @ 3020fps and it fills the case just below half way up the case neck.

57-58 grs usually is where the best accuraccy has been for me. I know Muledeer writes he likes it too at 58-grs.

56.5grs of IMR4350 and the Hornady 180gr SST clocks 2868fps out of my T3 and does 3/4" three shots at 100yds.

Bwinters, what R17 load are you using with the 180 grainers, and what speeds were achieved if you don't mind sharing?

I too am using 58g of H4350 for about 2820fps, but have 5lbs of R17 here as well.

For 180's in my '06s they eat H4350. I've heard good stuff about Hunter but haven't been able to find any for what seems like a couple of years.

55.5 gr and 2650 (20" barrel) if memory serves me. I'm headed kayaking and will check when I get back.

Yep - 55.5 for 2660 in my 20" barrel. I ran up to 57 for right at 2700 ft/sec but accuracy was better at 55.5 in my rifle.

58gn of Rel 17 got me 2150fps in a 22" barrel with 180gn Partitions.
