Hi guys, I'm new here. I saw the other day what was said to be a special (limited run?) .300 Savage with a Lyman receiver sight (that was said to be thought factory installed) and a front sight with a band - it wasn't a ramp with a dovetail. It was mint and looked, to me but I'm no expert, original. They said they think it was a 99R. All it said was Model 99 with no letter marking on the gun. Sorry I didn't get the Ser #. Was this worth $1250? Thanks
Walk slow, get down, hurry up and be quiet.

Thanks LBK, If I get the Ser # would that identify anything? Like I said, the front sight is very interesting. It's a barrel band type, very attractive like nothing I've ever seen before. The stock is regular quality wood - nothing figured or anything. No monte comb or cheekpiece.

Pictures are always helpful. Serial number puts you in the ballpark for year of manufacture and model. But general description of the rifle, barrel length, stock and forend style, and the lever boss code. That is found on the front of the receiver just about in front of the pivot for the lever. It is generally a number and letter combination within a tiny oval. Some are difficult to read while others are not. But most of all try to post/attach a picture.

I don't believe that Savage ever cataloged a barrel band mounted front sight.
