I was wondering if anybody had experience with an Avery "Finisher Blind" or a Final Approach "Eliminator Pro Guide Blind". How do they do in the mud? Easy to clean? Are they awkward to pack?

I'm looking for a portable laydown blind I can pack down some pretty tough trails in the dark with a headlamp. I'll also be packing decoys. I need concealment on tide flats.

Joel: I really like the concept as I hunt in cornfields and open land adjacent to ponds. My hunting buddy and I bought an Avery two years ago and it ripped in two places the first day we used it. Overall, I was disappointed in the quality of the stitching and the general workmanship.

I don't believe they would hold up under any extreme conditions or for any length of time. Cannot comment on the Final Approach but we abandoned the commercially made versions and now use camo netting and modify it to match our surroundings. It's a lot lighter and easier to haul around.

I would not want to haul one of these blinds too far as they are pretty cumbersome. If you can truck your stuff in they may work but carrying one, decoys and, oh yeah, a shotgun would definitely take the enjoyment out of it for me.

Buster,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's good to know that about the Averys. I'm looking into the netting idea.

Thanks again.

As an aside, the Avery and Final Approach brands are about as reputable as it gets in the layout blind market. I'd check around, maybe goosehuntingchat.com. Lots of good opinions there. My brother has a Final Approach Xlandr and loves it. I've also heard great things about anything Avery. I'd check around bud.
