I've been considering a Burris 4.5-14x42 with ballistic plex. so I was wondering what the general opinion was with these scopes? Optical quality? Value? Do you think that the reticle points would correspond reasonable well to the ballistics of an 7mm-O8 Ackley out to 500yds?
Regards, DBT

got a few burris scopes. Eye relief is a pain and the whole eye piece moving makes useing the Butler creek caps a pain in the azz. They weigh more than a Leupold. the glass is very clear and i've not had any problems with adjustment. I normally ignore the Ballistic plex so can't help you there. I've been a burris fan for years but as of late all my scope purchaces have been Leupold and will continue to be in the future.
I can't spell... Deal with it...

I have five of them on 35 Whelen, 338 Win Mag, 300 Win Mag, 30.06, and 280 Remington. Four of them are BallisticPlex, but here in West Virginia, shots greater than 250 yards are unusual. My rifles are all capable of at least 200 yard point blank ranges.
I have yet to have a problem with any of them.

I own a 2x7, a 3x9 and a 4.5x14. I love the ballistic plex, and the only complaint I have about them is I don't like how the whole eyepiece turns, but you can live with it.
The Pentax Pioneer is the exact same scope, and it is less money. I paid $249 for my 4.5x14.

I'm happy about the good reports so far, so I'll probably order my 4.5 -14x next week. I'm just wondering how close the ballistic plex aiming points are likely to be to the trajectory of my 7mm-o8 Ackley. Oh well, soon find out I suppose. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I have the 4.5-14X, and think it is very good glass. However, mine won't hold zero, it has been back for repairs twice, and both times they claimed it was just fine, and returned it without doing anything. It is on the verge of becoming a $300 spyglass for my grandkids.
Be not weary in well doing.
