Im going on my first guided hunt this fall for moose in Alberta. Assuming the hunt is a success ( not measured by game taken ) what would the appropriate tip be? Should I plan 15% of the cost of the hunt ? That's a chunk of change. If that's what it should be so be it. I'm asking what do you guys go by

On a trip like that, I might tip the guide--$500-600.00 or more, Cook--$100-150.00 wrangler--$100-150.00 camp jack $100.00

Use the same judgment you would at your local restaurant.

If you are in shape, not an Azz and lend a hand when the opportunity arises then there is no standard.

If you step off your horse and go sit on your Azz and watch others work tip them accordingly.

Tip those who work hard for you, I can unsaddle my horse and brush him down, I an more than willing and capable of cutting and carrying wood.
I can gut, skin and pack a share of the meat and enjoy doing so as its part of the hunt that I paid for, therefore I don't pass C notes around like hershey bars.

If this trip is your vacation and you want waited on like at the Tiki bar then tip accordingly.

I choose to be more of a participant than just a shooter.

I guess what I'm saying is there is no "standard" just enjoy yourself.

Yep, I expect to be active participant that's just the way I hunt. Probably why at 63 this is my first guided hunt. I just know there area lot of members here who do go the guided hunt route and was wondering how they look at it. Thanks for the input

Some of these guys are city folks who will buy new boots for such a hunt, they feel as long as they are paying they should be waited on hand and foot, and thats just fine if you "hunt" that way, I don't, I want to get the most out of it I can and I do this by being as big a part of the hunt as I can be, tipping the cook is a great Idea as they are about as hard a working as any one in camp, that being said I never met a cook that didn't appreciale help with the dishes or the carrying of water.
Some guys sit and wait for the coffee to get done, some of us make the coffee, its just who you want to be.

Helping hands make far a great hunt for everyone.

So do you tip yourself as well as the hands

You won't have any trouble knowing who and how much you want to tip.
