Going to be sending a Leupold 6x to the factory to have a M1 turret installed.
My question: What would you recommend Mil Dot or Tactical Milling Reticle.
Primarily I want to dial up & have reference for wind hold off. Recommendations from guys that hold off for wind, thanks!

Leupold would not install those reticles on my 6X.

Might want to make sure...

I have and like both but on a hunting scope I would look hard at the wind plex. It's less cluttered and it's hash marks are in MOA

If your turrets are MOA I'd ask for the windplex.

If your turrets are MIL, I'd still ask for the wind plex. You don't want to mess with the other two reticles for dialing elevation and holding wind.

They told me no to all 3 of those reticles in a fixed 6.

They told me no to all 3 of those reticles in a fixed 6. I don't understand why Leupold would tell you no for all three reticles. I went to the custom shops website, clicked on the fixed scopes, selected to 6x42 and they show the two I mentioned above. They do not show the windplex that's why I did not include it in the original question. I guess I'll have to give them a call and ask some questions.

I called a while back about getting an M1 turrett installed on an FX3, was told no - they wouldn't do that anymore. I was incredulous and posted on this forum. A few days later I was contacted by the custom shop supervisor. The person I talked to on the phone was mis-informed, they do still install M1's.
Seems to be a bit of a disconnect between the people answering the phones and the guys in the custom shop with regards to the fixed 6's. I sent an e-mail w/ a link to this thread to the same supervisor, hopefully he will respond.

There’s a possibility the subtensions will be off when installed in a 6x.

This spring I had my 6x36 converted to cds dial, I asked for a reticle with moa or mil hash marks verticle and horizontal and was told there were none available for that scope "yet". He said there were going to be some customizable reticles available soon but not yet. This was at the Canadian custom shop Korth Group.

There’s a possibility the subtensions will be off when installed in a 6x. This is what I was told by the Leupold Custom Shop Superviser. He did offer up using a 4-12 TMR put in the FX3 6X42 BUT that would change the subtension from 1Mil to 2Mil hash marks. Same with the Windplex using the 4-12 windplex and installing in the 6x42 would change the hash marks from 1MOA to 2MOA. I think it is time to serious consider one of these options.

WBill,
Glad you finally got a straight answer! The SWFA SS's are a really good choice as well. They're a little heavier and bulkier than the Leupold but they have very useable reticles and 100% reliable adjustments. Good luck w/ whatever you choose.
