im thinking to builth a fast 7mm 7mm-338 lapua imp is there 40 degrese shoulder on that and where can i geth dies and reamers

IMO you should go with the 7 RUM instead. I doubt you will see much gain with your wildcat but you will see plenty of costs. Custom reamer, custom dies, altering an existing rifle to accomodate the 338 lapua case.

The key sentence in that discussion is: The Lapua requires lots of modification to work in a Remington 700 action and that means high cost. The Ultra is a factory available chambering and requires no modification to the Remington Ultra action. In short it can be built for around the same cost as a .308 sniper rifle.

Now if you just have to do something different go for it.

Mikeal- regarding the term "Improved".
Basically this means some sort of modification to increase the horsepower(FPS) of the case.
ie.- pushing the shoulder Fwd., Sharpening the shoulder angle and therefore blowing out the body taper are the two most common.
So When you say you want a "improved" case, it can mean alotta thing. I'm sure that someone has done this 40* wildcat somewhere, as thats one of the first "improvements" done on any case. Reamer makers can and will make anything possible. So will the major die makers, just remember if it's not mass produced it's gonna cost you. You would spend you money much more wisely doin a 7Rum. Cheaper components, no bolt face/feed rail modifications and pretty close to the same FPS. But it's your money and there are more than a few of us that had to learn the hard way <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> and some of us will never learn <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />

mikal: go to longrangehunting.com, ask Fiftydriver about it, as he has made a 7mm Allen mag, wich is a 338 necked down to 7mm, and improved.

He aslo has a 270-338LM Imp

Nope, the 7RUM was not in exsistence when I did mine. The 338 RUM was the 2nd introduced and I went to 7mm from there.

OK I know one of these cases is a bit longer, which one of the RUMs is the longest?

the 338 RUM is a bit shorter than the 300 and 7mm versions...I think the difference is .10"..IIRC

Historically incorrect. Currently correct. Mark D. the 7 and 300 share the same length 2.850". The 338 is 2.760" or .090" difference.

My Warp 7 will send a 160 gr pill Nos AB at 3345 avg into.35 at 100. Has gotten just shy of 3400 (3397) with the 150 MK and has shot .3 consistently with several powder levels and velocities. This is with a 26 inch tube fluted #5, Mc Classic stock, Kodiak Action built by Speedy. Going to build a new heavy gun based on this cartridge�300 win mag with almost no body taper, 35 degree shoulder, necked to 7mm.

Boss- I run a 7 Mashburn Super and it is based off of the 300 wm.

It'll be on the elk hunt this weekend, it took a few lopes to task the other day....grins

If Jr hasn't ironed out a lope by the time I get back perhaps he can sort one out using the old Mashburn. I've no doubt it and or him will have any issues doing the job!

Perhaps the morn of the 28th we could load up old Whitey and Jr and the Mash and have him take out a lope and a carp deer?

My .375-.416 was made many years prior to the .416 Rem. The barrel is stamped .375-8 Rem Mag. So many no longer know what an 8 Rem is so I started calling it the more recent name. Same thing with my STW. I used a reamer which does not say STW, but STW says it better.
