Tried to look this up elsewhere but didn't have much luck. Do any of you ex-Marines (or current) know if the Marines have tanks or other forms of mechanized Weapons? I realize they have APCs and the like but wondered if there were any mechanized divisions such as the 3rd ID (formerly 24th ID Mech.) in the Army?

Yes. Three tank battalions (IIRC), and several armor battalions.
The tanks are M1A1 Abrams MBTs.
Armor has LAVs and AAVPs, among some other stuff.

They absolutely do.
I'm not a Marine, but happened to know the answer because of my son.

Yes. The tanks come into Lejune on rail cars from Bragg. They then get "Frankenstein'd" into working armor. About a 1;4 ratio.

No first hand experience, but a friend was a tank mechanic during his service with the Marines in the first Gulf War...

I was attached to third Tank Battalion at 29 Palms back in 1983-84.

I remember operating with a reserve tank company out of San Diego ( I think), on a MORT at old Camp Elliott. They still had some M48's!

Some of my best buddies during the Gulf war were tankers, fellow Marines.
Something clever here.

Thanks guys. Overheard one of the salesmen at work today make the comment that the Marines had to rely on the other branches for anything but rifle infantry. Thought he was wrong and asked him how about the F-18 squadrons at MCAS Beaufort but I really didn't know enough about it to comment further.

The Marine Corps has armor, it also has an air wing fixed wing and rotary. MCAS stands for Marine Corp Air Station.By the way there is no such thing as an Ex-Marine.

John He's full of schit. The Navy provides the taxi service in exchange for the Marines keeping them safe, and the Air Force provides heavy lift duties and big ass bombers and all the cool tech schit they have (like spy stuff). Other than that, the Marine Corps is pretty damned well rounded as far as capabilities. Google wikipedia's page on "Marine Battalions", print it out, hand it to him, and tell him to stick it up his ass. Considering that's where his head is, it might end up in his mouth long enough to keep him quiet for a bit.

The guy's a car salesman that ,according to him, has been everywhere and done everything but is terribly hard to get ANY details out of concerning said adventures. John

By the way there is no such thing as an Ex-Marine. Chuckle, chuckle. I was corrected as such by a good friend. I would have been better off saying my pistol had clips....
