Just sitting here at work not being able to concentrate on anything but the upcomming MN deer season. Its only 18 days away.

I started going through my stuff last night. There is nothing like the smell of the woods in a coat or a backpack is there?

My knives are sharper'n hell, my beard is getting thick, and my mind is in the only big popple where my stand sits in the middle of a big spruce swamp on the Iron Range.

The '06 is sighted in, the extra clips are full.......Man why can't this go faster.

This is fun ain't it.

I hope my kids and grand kids will hunt with me when I'm 88. That is pretty cool. Good luck. We have grandpa hunt with us still, he is 79, and still chuggin' along. Although this year he mentioned for the first time, "this may be my last year". No matter what, I'll take him what ever he decides

18 more days? Heck, we start here in 2 days. In the areas formerly known as "T-zone" .. LOL

Do it today. Tomorrow there may be a law against it.

Hopefully the lack of an early t-zone will help the season a little. I hope WI will kill enough antlerless this year...we'll see.

I'm in a pre-rut status. hopefully soon I will have my typical level of enthusiasm to share here. Tree hugger types can consider that a warning as I tend to become graphically unethical as my condition worsens. For now, I remain relatively mild mannered & well behaved.... but the time is nearing.....

Yeah, I'm getting the itch to drop the hammer on something too. My boy's chomping at the bit to hit the woods-this is the first year he'll be able to hunt without me at his side. We were up scouting two weekends ago-saw a beautiful big fat doe that'd fill the freezer up real nice...... Man, I'm ready to go!

What are you doin' huntin' in Mud Duck Land? No deer in TAX HELL WISCONSIN?

I'm just hoping the damned wolves moved out of the area near Minong where we normally hunt. Haven't had a chance to check out the trails yet.

Redneck, I hail from the land of the Vikings, I'm just stuck here in TAX HELL for the next 25 years or so untill I retire....

There are plenty of wolves around, but the deer I've seen at the camp were all real healthy looking, like the wolves got the weak ones. Fine by me I like my deer big.

Getting the orange urge bad here. Going up this weekend to get all the ladders and chairs out on the stands (put them out too early and the bears shred them...)
A little sad though. My wife almost went for the early anterless hunt in area 210, but we couldn't get it coordinated. She doesn't want to go in the cold and with the full crew so I hope next year.
I have to go sharpen knives now...

I couldn't help but just notice I seem to have grown a wire like shag on my face, almost carpet like......

Just last night I forgot to cook a steak before eating it..... or did I?

I can't be 100% certain but this morning I think I actually swerved to try and "hit" a deer while driving to work.....

Suddenly I have an odd attraction to the color orange.....

I fear these are all signs of the inevitable....

I fear for the woodland creatures.....

Yes, I truly fear for the delicious woodland creatures........

Oh no, it's happening.

I'll be on the on the road on the 2nd of Nov in order to be in my stand up around Detroit Lakes for opening morn.

I am pretty darn stoked about going on this hunt.

One of the pards was bowhunting last week and had a timber wolf trot through like he was on a mission. He said it never stopped or even looked in a different direction, just kept on chuggin.

23 days for us in Michigan but the itch is strong. Prime bowhunting is coming up though but I love rifle season. We have one in the freezer though. My 15 year old took his first buck and first deer with a bow this weekend. I won't come close to finding a better trophy than that.

Good one whelennut! The remington autoloader rules the deer woods up there! I know everyone in our crew has had a jam of some sort.

Well I have all my deer stands out, brushed the property lines so we can see the deer better, and even mowed the trails. I am so ready it feels kinda like I am in Rut...

The boy and I are just about set, 8 stands to choose from on our forty. The deer have really been moving here in the arrowhead, not a lot of scrapes/rubs yet but the numbers sure look good. Best of luck! Post some pics when you tag out.

There's whole bunch of guys 'gonna be a whole bunch of disappointed up here when their "Minnesota Machine Guns" (a.k.a. Remington 740, 742, 7400) start jamming. If they'd invest in a good bolt gun they wouldn't have to worry about such things! Spray and pray is a bad way to hunt...........
