Loading Ammo with QuickLoad
Is anyone using Quickload program and Chris Long's Optimum Barrel Time vs Barrel Length, mS ? What are your results?
In a pursuit to assemble the best ammo I can I've been experimenting with these two as a method to avoid the Audette Ladder method and / or shooting groups to find the best load.
On the week-end I loaded 200gr Berger Hybrids in my 300 Winchester for the first time using only Quickload and OPT. The program determined (after inputting all physical characteristics) and knowing the OPT is 1.208 mS for a 23.6" barrel, that 75.62 Grains of H-1000 would yield 2882 fps.
So here is what I got, 2895 fps avg over 10 shots and a SD of 11. A 200 yard group of 0.9" vertical and 1.9" horizontal in a gusting 15-25 mph wind. That is less than 1moa and on a calm day would be ~1/2moa.
