Got my first elk this year. Hunted the Beaver Creek Flat Tops in CO. Shot a nice 4x4 on the second day of the season with a 270 WSM, 140 gr Barnes TSX, one shot at 230 yrds. He only went about 50 yrds before piling up. The weather was not great, rain, snow, sleet, sun, wind and lightning all at the same time from the first day.

Very nice elk. Its good to start off with a 4x4. My first one was under the same circumstances. Went from sun to rain, sleet, snow and freezing cold all while we were cleaning him. Mine was with a .338 @ 60 yds, but a free-stalk elk nonetheless. Congrats and hope you get many more.

Good job. Congrats. How does he "eat?" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> Most tender elk I've eaten have been bulls.
