Yeah, I asked for a ballpark quote before I took it in and the guy was WAY off. For $500 I'd have done it myself, and will next time. Heck, for $500 I'd pull the door and jam the window up and leave it. Only use it for hunting, don't need a rear window anyway.
Needed it for a hunting trip this weekend tho, and with rain forecast and no time to fix it myself went ahead with the ripoff.

And it was probably a dinky little cable that broke. What year is the truck?
I had to do both front windows in my 2004 Supercab

Funniest thing we hear when somebody brings a vehicle in is"I would have done it myself, but I didn't have the tools".

Yep, neighbor pointed me at the youtube vids but the ballpark price I was given and was expecting to pay was low enough I was okay with it. Then they called with the real freaking price that's double the ballpark and I was screwed - either change my plans for tomorrow's hunt or pay the extra.

I got real good at replacing window regulators on my 2002 Silverado.......I think I did 5 total in the 9 years I owned it.
Traded for a 2011 Tacoma.......64K on it now (bought new by me) and nary a problem.

Did one on my old '02 Ford Explorer for about $125. That was the first one I had done and it wasn't difficult. Good to know that it's not something I want to take in to the shop.

I have replaced the drivers door regulator on my 2005 twice. The first time I went aftermarket. When that lasted only a couple of years I went back to the Motorcraft version. The aftermarket was about $150 and the oem was IIRC $225. As someone else said, replacement takes about an hour.
The first time it failed I was in a store. I came out into the parking lot and the window had fallen down into the door. I had a pistol in the center console at the time. Nice.
The second time it failed I was driving down the road when a storm hit. One of the plastic pieces connected to the cable snapped. Once again the window was headed down into the door. I was able to drive home through the rain holding it up with one hand.
Now I don't trust the damn window to stay up and never lower it if I don't have to. Pain in the butt but like someone said it is paid for.

I've done a few regulators and they're not that hard. Some parts stores like Autozone offer a lifetime warranty on the parts but be sure to keep the receipts. They count on you losing it before the part goes bad.

$212 for the motor, $280 for the labor? Wow... An aftermarket motor is about $50 or 60.
