Slugworth,

First of all, welcome to the "fire".

Your rifle appears to be original and, if so, should be worth $1100 to $1200.

Pretty gun, very early Transition model, looks like it was among one of the first manufactured by Winchester for the civilian market following the war. Appears to be all original and it has condition, $1,600.00 - $1,700.00 + if you find the right buyer. Interesting arrangement in the rear dovetail....

That gun actually has a serial # that falls well into the pre-war range....

Thank you all for the info. So I quess its a 1946?? Not sure why the last 3 pics didn't show up. Were you able to see them?? This was actually my grandfathers and I got it from my dad. But honestly it's just sitting in my safe and was thinking of selling it. I know someone would appreciate it more.

Again thanks for your help...

Too bad someone else would "appreciate" a rifle more than one owned by his grand dad and then passed down to his dad. No further comment from me..

It's a pre-war cloverleaf action with a Tilden safety, even though it was assembled in 1946. Also, the rear bridge is not drilled / tapped. These actions were used up after WWII. You have a very nice rifle with target scope bases. I think $1200.00 is minimum for what I see them offered for now. The quality of your rifle is el primo. You have a treasure.

Very nice rifle, thanks for showing it for others to enjoy. Others can give you current value south of the border.

Very nice Model 70. Your grandpa and pops took very good care of it.

Some folks are so emotionally attached to things that they are unable to understand, we have different likes and dislikes. My dad was a Guitar player, I have two of his guitar's. I only enjoyed playing guitars with him because he could make up for all my mistakes and lack, that made playing fun. I miss playing with him but in 20 years the Martin and Strat. rarely leave the case.

Best
Ken

Thanks for the welcome!!!

I get what BSA is saying, believe me I do... I've had these thoughts before about selling it for the extra $$$ i could use. But I always back out. I quess deep down I don't want to sell it. But I was curious as to what I have..

For what it's worth, value won't go anything but up. Dad looks to have taken really good care of it. Treasure it for what it is.

Basically your rifle is priceless. I would take the gun out an shoot it. Then I would take it home and clean it. Somewhere in between the two actions you might just get a little dust in your eye remembering the two previous owners. It has happened to me more times that I care to admit.
