purchased a post war EG, ser 623xxx, lbc 24c(1951 same as me), that has a case colored mag rotor with vivid colors. yes, I know a pic is worth a thousand but by not having a digital camera or a pc(use at the local library) I can have more powder, projectiles, and 99s. don't watch the tube either as it requires either a sat or cable conn in extreme western nc where I reside. of the 6 99s I have, this is the only one that is not either brass or a shiny metal mag rotor(aluminum or ss-don't know which). were these common? some one here has the phrase-never say never with savage. I have a 1966 marked f on the receiver with a 243 barrel- no sight boss- that has barrel marked a c! what say the savage seers?

I wouldn't say common, but not rare either.

The case hardened steel rotors appeared in 600K serial numbered rifles. Maybe there was a shortage of brass during the Korean war is why they used steel during that period. The 243 F without a sight boss is a curiosity. The 99C's in that period had the lightweight barrel with the boss. There's always an exception, the 284's in those rifles didn't have a boss. The 99E's 20 barrel in all calibers including 243 didn't have the boss. Is your barrel 20 or 22 inches?

wyom it's a 22 in. got the top tang safety with the gold trigger and impressed checking. forend has inlet for the sight boss. no apparent vice marks on either stock or barrel to indicate rebarreling. seems like I've read the introduction c model came the year before this was manufactured and lasted only one year. I'v seen another on gunbroker in the last month or so in 243 that appears very similar but I couldn't tell if the barrel was c marked and if the forend was relieved for the boss. the seller was advertising it as a mid 50's arm with the gold trigger and tang safety so I didn't try for clarification.

I got two guns with case colored rotors. Both in the 600K range like wyo1895 stated.

R and EG.

Have not seen another single one.

Mike, he is referencing this one..." I have a 1966 marked f on the receiver with a 243 barrel- no sight boss- that has barrel marked a c! what say the savage seers?"

I have had 2 EG's with the steel rotor. Both 6xx,xxx. I'd like to see the barrel address on that one. Sounds like a later barrel. The barrels without the boss were heavier than the ones with it. But maybe the boss was larger in diameter at that point so even if the forearm was reamed out it still had some barrel boss clearance left.

I have two 1954 R's that I believe are in the 700000 range with case colored rotors. Not near them now but can check when I get back.

I need to find a gunsmith that does good work on Savage 99's. I need to have the spring tension on the magazine rotor adjusted for proper spring tension. Also would like the round counter to line up properly. O can't seem tp find anyone locally. are new rotor spring avalible?

Check out the Misc Good Info thread way above. IIRC there are instructions there on how to adjust the spring tension and thus make the numbers line up. It's pretty simple but it might take three hands.
