I missed opening doe because of yard work. friend don came today and I let him use my SBH. He has been a rifle hunter but I got him into the revolver. I heard him shoot before 8 and just after 8 I shot a nice one with my BFR. Don made a perfect heart shot. first time ever with a revolver.

Well done to both of you. Congrats.

looks like you got your yard work done, too. Good on you for helping your friend get into handgun hunting.

I hate leaves, ground is covered again.
Don told his wife he wants a revolver. A SBH Hunter. He can use mine anytime too. He loves the freedom of not lugging a rifle.
I want a flame thrower. Those stinking beggar lice seeds were all over us. I don't know what the name of the weed is but they are everywhere.

I can understand the freedom of not lugging a rifle. Looks like some tough conditions....

Drive a guy nuts, sitting in the stand picking the things off.

I made a mistake with mine. I was using my BFR in .500 JRH and the doe was walking so I held front of shoulder but she stopped when the hammer dropped so I hit bone. The bone exploded and I had broken pieces and chips like crazy at the entrance hole.
Darn maybe a HP should be used!!!!!
The boolit turned to destroy the neck before exit. WOW, worse then a Weatherby.

To see what a revolver can do and read about all those that want a HP, soft boolit, makes my head spin. They do have a place with certain calibers and velocities so don't jump on me. My boolit is a hard 22 BHN with half the nose cast softer using 3# of pure, 1# of WW and a touch of tin. WFN. It is SCARY!
I usually hit behind the shoulders for an instant drop and no meat loss.
A few more steps and it would have worked, I did not expect her to stop.

I found a place to put a ladder stand where I could get a shot with my 4 inch S&W 629 with iron sights. I would use Lyman #429421 from Linotype.
Maybe I should give it a shot? grin

It will work. I have found the .44 can use hard boolits but I just use Water dropped WW metal. Mine run 20 to 22 BHN.
Lino is valuable for alloys.
I do lean to heavier for the .44 and my boolit Don used is 330 gr. I also like the Lee 310. Both are about 1300 to 1316 fps.
Nothing wrong with the 429421. Place it and you will have a deer.

Shot this and a couple of others like it with a 10mm and 180 grain hollowpoints last Saturday. Got a doe the nite before in a pouring rain, shooting the same load. 10mm is a neat hunting pistol.

Good deal but different caliber, bullet construction, etc. It is more like a .41.
.41 is a good caliber too and the only reason I never bought one was bullet selection back then.
If I used jacketed in the .44 I would use the 300 gr XTP.
