I built a stainless 700, 26inch Shilen #5 contour, with a 1-8 twist. MPI Sendero style stock. I have a tight shooting load worked out using the 162 A max, and have spent a lot of time shooting it this summer. It's ready for my 600 yard corn field in a couple weeks!
I know that the 162 performs well at some distance, but how does it act on a lung shot white tail at say, 75 yards? Lung mush is what I'm thinking, but have never hunted with this bullet myself. Thanks!

Expands fairly aggressively, but the long shank digs deep. This just came out of a moose about 2 weeks ago, shot at about 150 yards, recovered after breaking the onside humerus, penetrating ribs/lungs, and ending up under the offside hide...

That's pretty impressive! I'm looking forward to using it. I've had a lot of fun ringing steel and punching paper this summer.

I shot an elk at 75yrds with the 162 amax. I didn't find the bullet but the damage penetrated all the way through the elk.

Shot a buck last year with a 162 A-max out of my 280 AI at about 125 yards. It worked great, double lung/heart short death dash and down.

This is a quartering away shot at 153yds the exit was a bit large but the deer (dressed in the 150lbs) folded where he stood.

Inside 30 yards..... .280 Rem, 162 Amax impact velocity about 2800fps. Blacktail buck, slight quartering away, entered mid-ribs, no exit. Deer went down hard. Entrance wound.... Deer...
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......

I've been wondering the same thing. Up until now I've been loading 120 tsx in my 7 rsaum. They kill stuff very, very dead, but start to suffer at distance. I'm tempted to try the 162...

700 yard comparison of 2 bullets on a ballistic app for what it's worth.
Would definitely rather have a Partition up close.
175 gr Nosler Partition bc .519 Velocity Energy 1861 (fps) 1345 (ft.-lb.) Trajectory MOA Mils -108.3 (in) 14.8 4.3
162gr A-Max bc .625 Velocity Energy 2037 (fps) 1493 (ft.-lb.) Trajectory MOA Mils -100.3 (in) 13.7 4
Disclaimer: I've never owned a 7mm rifle.

I saw a 162 Amax essentially grenade on a deer's front shoulder from a 280. Some pieces apparently made it through, as one lung had a bit of damage. Deer needed to be shot again, though.
Also had a 105 Amax blow up on a front shoulder, so maybe I just have the world's worst luck with Amaxs!
Anyway, in my experience, the Amax works best when bones are avoided.

This is the bullet I'm now using in my 7x57 Mauser
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I'm sure Big Stick will be along soon to fuss at me but for 8" difference at 700 yards I'd use a Partition.

Due the 175NPT's absolute dog schit profiling and bearing surface,it'll reliably bear fruit,to compare/contrast Real World velocities in a given chambering...when extrapolating in reference to the 162'Max. 1000 words. 1000 more. I'll leave Fluff and Fantasy to the Imagination and Pretend of others and happily speak facts in the firsthand. The 162 will ALWAYS make more velocity,at like pressure. That due it's lesser mass and vastly superior profiling,as well as it's eagerness to obturate. I realize them facts steal thunder.(grin) Anywhoo...even if granting gracious launches to the 175NPT and only citing a 100fps advantage to the 162,Reality do reliably collide with Fantasy,in like atmospheres. With the courteous citing of a confirmed Litz aero form to both(.307 G7/162 and .232 G7/175NPT),with like 100yd zero's and aforementioned 100fps launch differences, there's 8" of trajectory difference at the 500 fhuqking yardline...as well as better than halfa foot of drift and 300fps of impact velocity. At the 700yd line, trajectory is 23" different, the wind 14" different, impact velocity 350fps+ different. That to realize less expense and less recoil,if only for starters. The 175NPT is hardly a Terminal Trump Card. Hint. I reckon that it's far from "fair",that I gun that which of I speak and them inherent advantages ain't very Sportin'.(grin) 3100fps 162 A-Max launch,at an 80yd distant victim and a peek at the exit side of the equation. Bone were busted, start to finish and by literal design. 2700fps 162 launch and 15yd distant,CNS impact. Coming full circle,I personally do not know a single soul that Hunts/Shoots/Plays with a Nuzzler Partition of any size or weight. Reason(s) being, everyone savvies boolits and has gunned more than a few in extrapolation. I'm guilty of having shot more of them than anyone I know, which is a right proper Dichotomy...though only from .224" to .375".(grin) Weather is horribly changin' and the joys of Slippin' and Slidin' in crisp/clear high pressure,is quickly fadin' fast and Monsoon/Hurricane Season is fixin' to Chinook in. Been sortin' through piles of Bucks and have yet to poke an A-Max in the chamber, though .224" 75's,.243" 105's or .284" 162's have accompanied my every jaunt. Boltfaces run from .378" to .532" and launch speeds from 2960fps to 3500fps on the nose. Given the current wind velocity,I see the 162 once again being a Mayhem Mainstay, beings it happily operates in the rarest of air and less a single fhuqking concern. There's nothing warmer or fuzzier, than them "odds". Hint. Claimer: I've owned quite a fhuqking few 7mm rifles and have shot more than one boolit. Laughing!.................

I'll extrapolate the "hints", and hopefully, poke a hole through a Michigan buck!
