Hey, Tom. How about a pic of the old warrior? I'd love to see that rifle.
I also agree to leave her as-is. A rifle that good, and with that much experience deserves it.

I was talking with a PH friend that works mainly in SA and he said the 270 has worked perfectly for him. I picked up a Dumoulin 270 awhile back and have thought of taking it next time. It is pretty plain but dang fun tooo carry. It is the first bolt rifle I have ever had that had regulated sights. I have had fun playing with the open sights but I will be adding a scope probbaly soon. Guns with regulated sights have always facinated me.

The .270 and .375 is a combination that my wife and I have used several times. The .270 has accounted for a couple of kudu, a couple of gemsbok, a sable, both plains and mountain zebra, a black and a brindled wildebeest, innumberable impala, a warthog, a bushbuck, some duiker, a steenbok, a blesbok, a waterbuck, and others that don't spring immediately to mind. All were one shot kills from distances as short as 15 yards out to about 150. None required a second shot. The bullets were 150 grainers, some NP and some hornady. As always, shot placement counts for more than any other single thing.

There are a few pics in Turp's Modern Custom Guns book. Speaking of which, Tom how about a Volume II of that fine work?

CAS,
I tried several times today to post a photo of my old Miller rifle, along side Jack O'Connor's Nr.1 270, done up by Al Biesen. I was hunting Coues deer in Mexico with Buck Buckner and Hank Kaufman, both long time O'Connor pals, a couple years ago. Both Buck and Hank own several of Jack's rifles, and Hank owns Jack's Nr. 1 270, and used it on our hunt. I shot several images of my rifle and Jack's, side-by-side. Unfortunately, I couldn't get them uploaded into Photobucket. I'll try to figure out what the problem was and correct it. In the meantime, if you can locate a copy of Modern Custom Guns, there are a few photos of the rifle there.
As far as Volume II of Modern Custom Guns, I'm willing if I could just find a publisher.
Tom

AD- I've never been across the pond so I've kind of stayed away from responding.
But, I have used the 270 for a ton load of elk and from where I stand I can't imagine anything over there (with one big black critter and ele's) that I wouldn't take on with the 270 and a 130 TSX.
Just my take, you shoot well and there is no need to worry about taking Jacks old round on the trip. Mark D
