Just got back from NM. Hope got a 7x8, 370+" bull on the second day. 400 yard shot with 7-08ai and 120 gr TTSX. I'll post pics and story tomorrow. bludog UPDATE: The hunting was tough. The rut was over the big bulls were not talking much, and were mostly holed up recuperating from the rut. It was clear and warm and a full moon didn't help either. Hope got this guy on the second morning, after chasing him with her guide for several hours. The guide was working two bulls (who were talking that morning because a cow was in heat late) and they went back and forth several times along the ridgeline (saddle) between two peaks from one to the other bull and she was able to finally get set up on this guy across a valley right at 400 yards. Her first shot was low - she admits she rushed it. After that shot, the bull moved a few steps and she was able to get a better view and she quickly followed up. Her second shot was a kill shot. He went about 40 yards uphill, but was behind trees so they weren't sure whether he had been hit or not. Hope felt good about the shot, but Andy (guide) hadn't heard the hit. They waited for a few minutes and after they didn't see him leaving they decided to go up to where he was and check. As they got near his location, they heard his dying moan and she finished him just to be sure. Her kill shot was lazered at 411 yards and the 120 gr TTSX hit a little low but hit both lungs just back of the heart and exited with about a half dollar size hole. MV was about 3120 fps shooting a standard 7-08 load of 45 gr Varget. I had loaded her up hotter with CFE 223, but she was having occasional fliers with that powder. This was a very consistent, almost one hole load. The shot was from the ridgeline behind her in the above picture. There's 2 dates they carve on your tombstone. Everyone knows what they mean. What's more important is time that is known as the little dash inbetween.

Wow! What a great bull! Congrats to Hope! bludog looks like that 120 Barnes worked pretty good! Yeah Bob, you might remember I was having second thoughts. But from the experience others on here have had with that bullet on larger game and our own experience here in Mid-MO, it was a good decision. The kill shot exited and obviously did the job. Hope had practiced out to 350 yds, and was confident with her gun. But it was a nice shot, she was sitting with her legs wrapped around the base of a tree and using a low branch for a rest. Said it was very stable.
