Having owned and sold two pairs of Swarovski's, the most recent being a pair of 8.5x42 EL's, I am considering a lighter, smaller pair.

The Trinovid's seem to be a great deal at $999 and I have not been to a retailer to check them out.

I have handled the CL's.

Which is the superior binocular based on one's opinion?

Thanks,

Steve

I have the 8x30 CL, and it is a very nice, and bright binocular, one of the most compact in its range, only 17 oz.

The Leica 8x42 or 10x42 Trinovid is a much larger optic and similar to the El that you have experience with. 29 oz.

The Leica will not be any better than your 8.5x42 EL,
in either size, weight or optically.

I sold the EL's.

I would also consider the smaller Swarovski EL's 8x30 or 32.

The 8x32 EL are certainly a step up from the 8x30 CL's. At a street price of $900-$1000 the CL's are a very good bino. My one complaint of the CL is when looking through them a person sees a lot of the inside of the barrels, and gives the impression of a narrower FOV. At 17 oz, they are the lightest "quality" bino I'm aware of.

Optically the 8.5x42's I've had the chance to look through in the field are about as good as it gets. Anything in the smaller 30-32mm objective lens is going to be a step down.

I have had the opportunity to look through 8x32 EL, Ultravid HD 8x32, and Victory FL 8x32, at different times, all of them out in the field. They are ALL very good......

Why go with the CLs. The 10X25CL pockets have better eye relief and they resolve just as good as the 8X30 CLs. I have both. The pockets only weigh 12 oz and cost less than the CLs.

Thanks for the input. Having owned Swarovski bingo's and scopes I'm certainly partial and let's face it, you can't go wrong.

I'll take a peak at the pockets and look for a Leica dealer in the area.

Thank you.

If you're looking for 8x32s, Camerland has Ultravids and Victorys demo binos on sale at a very good price.

I just went through the same thing with my 8.5 EL's. Bought Cabelas HD Euros in 8x32. Thought I'd miss the FOV during elk season, and it turned out the only thing I missed was the weight. Optically they are on the cusp of the Swaro.

Agree with Lee W. The Euro/Instinct 8x32 HD's are fantastic.

I'd really like the chance to look through a pair of those 8x32's.

All three pairs of Euro HD 10x42's I've looked through appeared to be out of collimation--two of them quite badly.........
