Is 7 LRM brass even available anywhere? Search turned up nada. I need another project like I need a hole in the head, but that's never stopped me before.

Brass is the reason I dumped the 7mm Dakota and don't mess with boutique/one source cartridges any more.Once was enough.

I built the 7mm Mashburn Super, get the same performance, and make my own out of common, cheap(er) 300 Win Mag.

Life is good. smile

What bullets/weights do you shoot in that Mashburn and what velocities are you getting Bob.

RD: My loads for the Mashburn are :

75.5 H1000 with the 162 Amax,160 NPT and 160 BBC. This gives about 3200 with any of these bullets.

RL25 and RETUMBO will give 3250 but H1000 is so good and consistent I just stick with it.

73-H1000-175 NPT gives 3075. All these velocities are from a 24" Kreiger barrel. My loads are about the same as Scotty Beretz gets from his rechambered M70 and 24" factory barrel.

Another buddy used 78-79 of RETUMBO with the 160 AB for 3250-3280;again a 24" Kreiger. He has since switched to H1000 as well.

Other than to FF brass I have not used anything lighter than the 160 in the Mashburn.

My velocities with the 160 in the Dakota were about the same but the brass was splitting lengthwise on the second firing. One source of brass soured me on it.

The 140 gave about 3350 ;and 3225 with the 150 SS II. The 120 TTSX gave 3550.

Any of these velocities are about the same as the Mashburn will give with the same bullets.

Unless i am mistaken, the LRM provides about the same in the way of velocities. hard to compare since everyone is using different bullets, barrels and barrel lengths;and some may load hotter than others but I think they are all comparable cartridges.

As far as I know, hornady is the only brass made, and needs to be purchased through gunwerks.

Searched the GW site some time back and found no way to buy it.

So you start off with 300 WM brass and what is the forming process from there. I'm interested in a 7mm off the 300 WM case. I was also looking at the 28 Nosler as the velocities are pretty impressive without even pushing the envelop at all. 3300 fps with 150's is easy according to Nosler's data. I'm not to concerned about brass availability seeing how Nosler is producing the round.

RD: Get the Nosler. You would likely be happier. wink

Joel says Gumwerks has LRM brass,so there's that, too.

Like I always say, you gotta really want a Mashburn if you're gonna build a Mashburn.

There are other good 7mm mags out there today.

I'm not interested in an UltraMag as I feel it would likely be to hard on barrels. I like the Nosler idea most as it would give me more room to load bullets out further and still not crowd the mag box.

I'd get the Nosler.

6-odd years ago when I built the Mashburn there was no LRM,no 28 Nosler IIRC.

We don't have crystal balls, but if forced to bet which company will still be around and making brass 10-15 years from now, Gunwerks or Nosler, my money would be on Nosler.
