Wrong species for this thread I guess, but my one experience with a fusion bullet on game was my daugther's cow elk. She got full penetration on a broadside shot right behind the shoulders. 150 grain out of a .308 at 187 yards.

I have used the 180 gr. in my .30-06 with good results. Took this deer with that load a couple of years ago.

I like the Federal Fusions, but would go with the Hornady American Whitetail ammo if it was available in the cartridge that I was using and didn't reload for. It is inexpensive, compared to most other brands of factory ammo, and shoots such good groups in my 25-06s and 270s that I don't feel any need to reload for them. I'm shooting Fusions in my hunting rifles (62gr 223MSR, 130gr 270Win, 150gr 308Win) but that's good to know about the Hornady AW. Might have to try those to see how they compare to my Federal Fusions.

Looks like good ammo. I reload my own, so I never mess with factory stuff. I should try some. Thanks

i've shot about a dozen whitetails with them out of my .243 so far but i have yet to recover one (the bullet). complete pass through on all. exit hole on every one indicated proper expansion as well each time. i don't think there is a better whitetail bullet around for the .243.

This thread has been responsible for creating another Federal Fusion fan here. I have a REM 700 that had a '06 barrel rebored to .35 Whelen. We deer hunt just above a huge upland swamp and you absolutely MUST prevent a wounded deer from getting down in there. (Don't ask me how I know this). I have been shooting my own hand loads based on 225 gr NBT bullets and Nosler manual specs. Accuracy OK, just so-so but very adequate for our close-medium range shots. So just mounted a new VX2 3-9x and bot two boxes of the 200 gr Fusions to try. Grouped three an inch high at 100 yards into 1.25", which is as good as my best handloads ever did. Very happy at the range and will report results on deer after the 15th. NB

Impressive. What was muzzle velocity at impact?

PSA has had some Fusion on sale lately. I think they have 7mm-08 and 30-06 on sale now. Page 3 and 4 of their daily specials. shipping is pretty reasonable thru them. Fusion link

Field Report: 200 gr bullet @2800 in .35 Whelen rifle. So Opening Morning a big doe and three other does/fawns came by my stand. They were milling around the little meadow I was watching and I waited to see if a shooter buck was following. None was, so when the big doe started to get a little nervous, I took the only shot offered; she was facing me directly at ~50 yds. The 200 gr Fusion took her square in the chest, just where the neck meets the chest. She did a quick half gainer and DRT. The bullet passed through the lower neck, the left side of the lung lobes, through the liver, continued through the rumen and ended up in the intestines somewhere. Did not find the bullet. There was an impressive amount of blood in the thorax and abdomen. I am a Federal fusion fan from now on out in this rifle.
