What are you boys taking in the field? I myself will be hunting near Curan Michigan with my 1955 F Model 99 in 300 Savage. I also plan to take my 1939K Model 99 in 300 Savage,it has never gotten bloody in the field and shoots great with its Lyman Peep sight. I think it is time to take it out and see what it can do. I did some shiming with aluminum shim tape on the base of the rear sight, I will try and get it to shoot in a pie plate at 100 yards and declare it deer camp ready. Looking forward to to great food and seeing all my buddies again. I love deer camp. Be one with the woods.

I really wish I could make it. But it looks like I will be there for the opener next year.
The two places I wish I could be hunting, if I was there.
Southern Michigan- Just north of Lapeer
Northern Michigan- Area between Wolverine and Indian River

Likely a different 99/1899 each day I hunt. Will have to carry old number seven opening morning. Waiting for a Buck with antlers in size that are worthy of hanging that gun in.
Thinking about trying a 22HP on one of those melt in your mouth size. GW

I have a nice 358R, but because I'm thinking of selling it I'm going to leave it home. Have a custom LH MRC 308 that I'll use instead. Leelanau County.

I'll be taking a couple of 1950s Featherweights: a .250 that I got from Lightfoot this summer, topped with a Leupold VX III 1.5-5X, and a .300 topped with an old Leupold M8 3X with German #4 reticle. I'll be hunting from my cabin in northern Newaygo County.
Good luck to all. Be safe.

Ugh, forecast for me is 63. Too freaking warm! Be taking out my 99T rat. Ruger American Rifle Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor with a 4-12x40AO up top, my "1-shot, 1-kill" rifle. Probably sit in one of Menard's $40 tree stands that has been retrofitted with stainless hardware. Since I hate tree stands, it will only be 10' high.

Heading out to Missouri tomorrow morning early for Saturdays gun opener. Will be hunting my 40 acre "farm" in Marion Co. Will be taking a Model C rat in 284 as well as "old reliable", a Remington 700 in 30-06. I know, I know, but I've been hunting with my 700 longer than I've been collecting Savages! Both guns topped with Leupys. Good luck to all!

Good luck to all you Michiganders! (Unlike you, I'm praying for balmy weather and no snow. May not be good for the hunting but it's good for me, the hunter. )

Depending on whether there is scrub brush you need to see over, it doesn't take a lot to get you high enough to have good visibility and have clear lanes. Good luck to all of ya!

Be heading up to the U.P. around Gladstone Saturday morning with my 1953 EG and 1940 T as back up. Both in 300 Sav wearing Stith set ups. Weather is allegedly going to be dry, but bout 30° to warm for my taste.

It may be too warm for deer hunting, but great for taking an afternoon snooze with my 1955 99F resting in my lap. Can't wait, almost taste the backstraps as I type this post.

Hang in there John. You'll get a couple more. All my friends and relatives are starting to pile them up with bows. But here in MD we can use crossbows. I won't know till Wednesday if the doctor will release me for WV opener. Yesterday was the first day I felt like I was making progress. Joe.

well at the end of the day, with about 5 mins of light left, a deer walked into the big scrape about 45 yrds out the 303 B was on the sticks, was a nice spike, but cant shoot them as we have the dam 3 point on one side crap, I see a bigger deer comeing put the "B" on it but its a bigger spike! dam! they moved off as the light faded, what I posted earlier was the total for 14 hunters, one of the worst operners our group has had! but 3 spikes were seen as were 3, 4 pointers, Im not buying the trophy Buck stuff if it worked where are they???? been proved it failed in the U.P. but be back out in the morining carrying the old 1899, just a Cool old gun, wish it could talk!
