I did a lot of research on this last year. Wound up with Vanguard Endeavors. Tons of great reviews on hunting and birdwatching sites. I really like them.

If you're hunting woods/brush 7x or 8x is plenty of magnification. Field of view can be important for closer distances. If you wear glasses while you use your binocular at least 17mm of eye relief sure helps.

Thanks for all the advice. This doesn't really narrow down my search much. I guess I need to get to a store for some hands on evaluation.

Where do you suppose I could see the ZenRay models in person?

I would suggest narrowing it down to a few that CameraLand carry and order through them. Once you get them you can give them a better evaluation than in a store and return what doesn't work.

I don't think you can get a good feel for optics looking through them a few times at a store.

Buy a pair of 8X30 Swaro CLs. Compact. nice and they do well for hunting in the woods. You can go less or you can go higher but this is a great spot for a pair of great binos.

Original poster asked,

I would like a pair of 8x binoculars for deer hunting. I do not want a gigantic pair, nor do I want compact pair. I'd like them to be in the $200-$500 range or thereabout.

Do you have some Swarovski 8X30 for $200-$500?

^^^ 2nd, 3rd or maybe 4th this.

They are way better than you would think for the price. Are they as good as my 8x32 Swaro EL SV's- no, but you would not expect them to be. But truth be told for resolving details, brightness, sharpness, and low light performance- they are not as far behind as you would think. They may not be true "alpha" quality, but they are really quite good. IMO they compete way above their weight class. I liked them a bit more than the Nikon 8x30 M7.

They are check off all to boxes that you at looking for. And you can pick them for $200-$250 on eBay if you want to go that route. I see optics planet has a demo pair on there right now for about $250.
