Hi,
I am looking at a Savage 99, made in 1936. It has a VG+ bore, very nice no-crack stocks, and about 80% of its original finish left. It is a classic used but not abused rifle, that I want to use as a shooter. It is a 30-30.
Currently, it does not have a peep sight. So, I am wondering if someone can tell me what would be the standard, 1930s era, Marbles and Lyman Tang Peeps that were made for this rifle.
I am hoping that I can mount a tang peep without drilling any extra holes in the rifle. Any info in this regard would be welcome as well.
Thanks,
Mannyrock

Hi again,
I forgot to mention that this has the pistol grip buttstock, not the straight-grip.
Thanks,

You should be able to mount both tang and receiver sights into factory drilled holes. I don't have the specific model designations in front of me, but the Lyman 57, and Redfield 70 and 80 series include receiver sights for the 99. Williams also makes one but they usually get second consideration to the others. Lyman, Redfield and Marbles all made tang sights. As did others. Take a look at eBay for good pictures as they all pop on on a regular basis, though ebay may no get you the best deal. Also Google Savage 99 receiver and tang sights for good pictures and references. There are others on this forum who know better and can give you a more directed answer. Best of luck.

Lyman 30 1/2 was factory on 99RS, as was the Redfield 70LH. But a Lyman 1A, Marbles tang, Lyman 56 or 57 would all be fine and are seen on 30's rifles frequently.
