There is something magical about the 35 Whelen. It performs much better than it does on paper.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well

I really like the 30-06 but have found that the 308 has replaced it for all my needs. Anything I would ever use the 30-06 for, the 308 does just as well but in a short action which makes a lighter weight rifle.

35 Whelen and 270 Win are my answers for this week. Those could change by next week. donsm70

There are lots of good bullets available for the 338-06.

I have a 270, and 06. So the next best thing is the 338-06. Wish they were main stream and cheaper to buy. Just might have to get into reloading to own that one.
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

The 30-06 is the best.
As far as offspring goes the 338-06 first, 35 whelen second, 25-06 third.
I own all of the above plus I have owned a .270 win, I have no experience with the other 06 offspring so I could not rate them. I am not a fan of the .270 win.
