I actually bought a 100 rd pack of CCI short HP at Bass Pro in Duluth Ga. today. Don't think I've seen any for sale for years, but maybe you guys have. In general, I'm seeing ammo far more widely available now. Regards, 21

I am starting to see some 22LR coming onto some shelves but not necessarily the "regular" stuff. I have actually seem more 22 Short HP available than 22LR at most places that I frequent.
Fine cartridge that 22 Short HP!

Agreed on the 22 Short HP. It's about all you need for early season tree squirrels back east.

When I was a kid, they were available in Canada as "Mushroom". That was actually on the little box. Nowadays, some activist "rights" group would probably be offended by that.

I killed a lot of squirrels with the 22 Short HP growing up
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Smacks the tree rats right down. And a Marlin lever holds 25 of them! No fumbling little cartridges with cold fingers.

We used them on a lot of game when I was a kid. Squirrels sure but also on rabbits (c-tails & jacks) and bigger. More effective/deadly than you'd think. In a Browning automatic....awesome!

Back in the day Shorts were a bit cheaper than Long Rifles at the store Dad worked at; he would gripe at me if I bought LRs so I compensated by getting Short HPs. The only thing I recall shooting with one was a jack rabbit, he ran a short distance and fell over, I doubt a LR Round Nose would have worked as well.

Only problem I've had with them is that they don't group worth a darn in any of my .22 rifles. Work good for shooting feral hogs in a trap however.

That's why I used to buy them. I think they were $.59 at the little country store near my grandmother's house. Nobody thought a thing about sellng them to a kid back then; now it'd be on CNN all day.
What fresh Hell is this?

My Browning Auto-22 in Short loves the CCI HP. When I first got it I tried both Rem & Win solids and was not impressed with the 25 yard accuracy but it shoots the CCI HP into a ragged hole. Fox squirrels don't like it worth a sh*t...

Shorts are still fairly common. LGS has some CCI .22 long. That's something you don't see very often anymore.

I killed a lot of squirrels with the 22 Short HP growing up I used them as a kid ,grandpa knew they would not wake every tree rat on the river up! Being a kid I wanted and got a Yellow brick of super X LR HP's for every Christmas, Squirrel per shot dropped when I went from a model 67 Win to a Win 290 auto deluxe that I saved up for sacking grocerys, 57 bucks! 11 years old and was able to walk into the Goodyear tire store and buy it! GrandPA was right, I now shoot subsonic 39 gr HP's, will never use up what Ive put back! very best winpoor

I think some rifles may not shoot 22 shorts as well as they do 22lr because of the chamber length. The majority of 22 rifles are made for the 22LR. The jump from the bullet of a 22short to the rifling could cause some potential issues with accuracy. I've found that rifles chambered for the 22Short cartridge have been extremely accurate...in my experience.

Rifling twist is faster for the LR. Might effect accuracy. Over stabilization used to be considered a bad thing.

I acquired an Auto -22 short a number of years ago. It too likes CCI-HPs. Hope some show up around here soon as I'm down to a brick.

I bought a Browning SA22 in short only a few years back. It was NIB Jap model. It shoots exceptionally well, both function and accuracy.
