I am but a simple man. But I am tired of all the anti-gun rhetoric on the news/interweb as of late. As though law-abiding gunowners are the problem and confiscation is the solution.
I propose that a grassroots movement start amongst gun owners, where we pick one day (say December 22nd) where every gun owner leaves the house that day carrying a firearm, openly and proudly. We need to show that we are not a danger, and that we are not going away. We also need to show the populace that we are vocal and we are Legion.
There. I've pontificated enough. You minions spread the word...

I've heard about regions of the US where open carry is common place (AZ and NM), and it's done occasionally around my neck of the woods too. But for the most part making a "statement" with open carry will just piss off those who aren't educated about firearms. I think we'd be FAR better off inviting people we know to the range for an education and free shooting session. It will help them overcome their fear and ignorance in a positive, controlled manner with someone they trust. Rubbing the public's face in your political agenda only works for the sexual perverts, and that's because they've got Hollyweird on their side, and are ready to scream bigot if anyone tells them to STFU and get back in the closet.
Two nights ago I made a 9pm run to Safeway for milk and eggs. The store isn't crowded then, so win-win. While my groceries are being run up, some douchebag walks into my line wearing a Beretta 92 in a Serpa drop holster. He was doing his very best to look "tactical" and just came off looking like a complete tool. If I actually thought he was mentally stable enough to chew out, I'd have done it. If such fool behavior pisses me off, I shudder to think what it's doing to folks who are still scared and/or ignorant about firearms.
Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. --Winston Churchill

My first father-in-law would openly carry in Wisconsin back in the 70s. No one thought twice about it. Once day a state patrolman asked him if his gun was loaded. He replied, "Yes...ain't yours?" Nothing further was said.

I can open carry at will, and did so yesterday when it got to hot to wear a jacket,....where I live it's commonplace and, outside of the odd cretinous snowbird,....raises no eyebrows.
One thing's for goddam sure though,...I'm not, and never will be your, "minion".
Go eat chit and howl at the moon.

No issue with people open carrying but it tends to make them a target for criminals ect.

Funny I have noticed that when, people carry, other people see it and some will give a look of whtf, while others smile and engage in a conversation on caliber, load etc. Friend of mine open carries all the time and he has some good conversations and makes some new friends.

I only do open carry in the woods and don't want people to know I'm armed when in public
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Texas will begin open carry for CHL license holders on January 1st. I hope that many will chose to carry openly. I know that I will on occasion.

Well here in the land of snowbird heaven, I prefer to keep my gun well out of sight. No use antagonizing those from the east coast. I was at J.C Penney's about a week ago when I hear in what sounded like an East Coast accent. "Oh my God. That man has a gun. Let's get out of here." I looked and it looked like a typical Arizonan, T-shirt and jeans with a cocked and locked 1911 on his hip. Didn't bother me a bit as he didn't look like some kind of crazy but you never know. Guess my point is I see no need to upset the bliss ninnies who no no better. I can just see that couple when they return home at a gathering. "When we were shopping there was a man carrying a gun. We feared for our lives. Couldn't get out of there fast enough." We don't need that BS. Paul B.

The same guy is a very good friend of mine and I am surprised at how little attention he draws while around other people. One day we were in a fairly crowded restaurant at the same time two of our local great police force were having lunch but they never acted as though they even noticed. No one else payed any attention but he doesn't make a big deal of it as though he were "making a statement" as the OP here suggests.

I don't see that he is shy but does not approve of people flaunting their "rights." I totally agree with him.

By "hiding" our guns, we are allowing social pressure to win the anti 2A argument. I grew up in the rural west where there was a gun in the gun rack of every pickup--including the high school parking lot. Try that anywhere in the USA today. This is one way the anti's win. And no, I'm not talking about some guys who are obviously trying to make a "tacticool" statement....... Casey

Simply carrying a handgun on your hip is not flaunting. I mean yeah, I do roll my eyes at some of the "tacticool" stuff, but a 380 on our hip ain't flaunting. A 8 inch Colt revolver? Well, that's kinda' obvious...... Casey
