If you don't have data for the rifle, how can you determine the twist in a barrel?

Well i put a cleaning rod in with a tight fitting patch and just get it started into the rifling then mark the cleaning rod with a spot near the handle and near where it is entering the chamber and when it makes one complete rotation
I make another mark and then pull the rod out and measure between the two marks to see how far it went such as one turn in 10" I think it would be close enough.
But I also have a speer book that gives the common twists used in factory rifles.
"The 375HH is the greatest level of power you can get for the investment in recoil." (JJHack) 79s and losttrail, biggest waste of air.

I'll try the cleaning rod method. My rifles are Savage Super Sporters mdl 40 & 45 Bolt actions made 1928 to 1941. Thanks.
