I'm in the mood for a new rifle and the kid will use it plenty as well. He's not recoil shy at all.

I've never even seen one but it seems to be generating a lot of interest.

What is the availability of rifles? Bullets? I can reload so if there is a selection of bullets that will help as well.

I have 5 of them; 2 Vanguards, 2 RAR-Ps, and a Marlin XS7 with a Savage barrel. All of them shoot good groups with Hornady and Winchester/Olin factory ammo and with the 100, 120, 123, and 129 loads that I have tried in them. 123 grain AMax is very accurate in the RAR-P.

Howa is cataloging the 1500 in 6.5 Creed, so probably the same as the Vanguard. The Vanguard is the most accurate out of the box rifle with factory ammo, Hornady 140 grain AMax, that I've owned, MOA or better from group #1.

Lots or everything including factory ammo here. Joy to shoot and will punish anything in it's path. Ruger, Savage and not sure what else as far as rifles.

100,125,140 partitions 120-140 TTSX,BT's,Scenars,Horns,Bergers,etc,etc,etc, hell a whole bunch of stuff. Horny Brass everywhere here..

I don't have 5....... but the ones I do got, are Rugers. And they're all shooters.

Nice collection. Was the detachable mag oem on the bottom rifle? How do you like the long Tom rig? Which shoots the best?

I have built two for guys who play wanna be sniper games. seems like a 260 Remington slightly altered, I guess it makes it special. the brass can be made from 308 I assume, when the brass becomes available if it really doesn't catch on. I don't really know why it s developed but it makes people happy so it all is good.

I have had several 6.5 Creedmoor rifles including the new Ruger Precision Rifle. The new Ruger is the most accurate rifle out of the box I've ever owned. On the first day at the range the 7, 8, 9 shots were taken at two hundred yds with Hornady A-Max factory ammo, and it produced a dime sized three shot group.

This is a great rifle but it is a little heavy to carry on an all day hunt.

I can't say enough about the caliber. I've killed lots of game with the 6.5 cartridge and two days ago I hammered a nice mature buck that dropped in its tracks.

You can't go wrong with the Creedmoor.

The others have pretty well covered the subject Tom. Bottom line is get one, you will not be sorry! It is an awesome cartridge. Anything based on the grand old 250 Savage case is great in my book....

Why does it seem to be catching on more than the .260 Rem?

Factory match quality ammo.

Built and chambered to handle really long bullets and not be limited by mag restrictions.

it fits better in SA mag boxes with high BC bullets better than the 260 can. Also I think the creed's timing was better, average hunters and shooters are more into long range shooting than they were when the 260 was new.

It has appeared during a time of increased interest in longer range shooting. By design it works better than the 260 with long ogive VLD type bullets in short action magazines.

If I were in your shoes, I'd buy a Savage package gun in 6.5 CM.

Street prices run around $500. The scope that comes with it is good. The rifle is known for being very accurate and is reasonably light. 6.5CM components aren't hard to find and the variety of bullets runs the gamut. Recoil is mild.

Advocates state rather bluntly, "The 6.5 CM is the .260 done right".

Now, I don't know if I'd be that crass about it, as the .260 is a fine round. For the purists, LR shooters using long ogive, heavy for caliber bullets, that does make sense. For the casual hunter, maybe not.

I'm a hunter, but Loony enough to have built a CM, not a .260.

Tom, a couple of folks I know are handloaders and have still gone the route of Hornady 140 grain AMax factory ammunition. All praise its accuracy so they don't even bother loading for the Creed.

That bullet isn't my cup of tea for hunting but a lot of folks use it with good results.

A Weatherby Vanguard 2 or RAR would be hard to whoop for the $$$$.

Tom, the guys have pretty well covered the reasons why the Creed is the way to go for a short 6.5.....

The 6.5 Creedmoor is the 260 without the indifference.

One other difference - the Creedmoor comes from the factory w/ a 8" twist, most 260 Rem factory rifles will be 9". 9" won't fully stabilize a lot of the long high BC bullets that are available in .264 cal.

They azz fugged the poor 260 out of the gate with poorly thought out throat lengths and slow twist rates.
