I am putting new scopes on two of my rifles, both Rem 700s. One a 7mm RM and a .338 WM. I am using Talley rings and bases. I don't have torque screw drivers... Is there any rule of thumb on how much to tighten the screws of the bases and rings? Thanks folks...

Tighten them until they start to strip then back off a quarter turn.
Seriously, buy a FAT wrench from Midway. They are only $50 on sale right now and you will never crush a scope tube or strip a screw.

If the screws are torx type use an allen type driver. Place the short end into the screw, hold it down into the screw head with one finger with one hand and tighten until the long part starts to flex with the other hand. This is the original instructions that DNZ used.
