Hi, new here but have been reading for a while.

I have a pac-nor 3 groove super match with a 12 twist in 6mm/300wsm. I have not shot it long enough to say it will last but it does shot great. It does have the wide 3 grooves and it cleans up easy.

I think some dabble in this and that.

Because of that intuition, some are more quantified than others, though the whole intrinsic evaluatory approach is muchly subjective.

Long way of saying I could really give a [bleep] what anyone else shoots, let alone why and trust my evaluations in the firsthand, much more than anything I might could read elsewhere.

PacNor's 3-groovers impress me heap big much.

The warm/fuzzy runneth over......................

What does B&C stand for? And will a 3groove increase the odds for B&C? Do you have any B&C?

Boone and Crockett. I've a few.

Point is/was,that 3-groovers spill blood just fine,as a minimum.....................

Never had a "barrel failure" on a hunt yet. That is the funniest thing I have ever read. Seems to me I would notice at the range prior to my hunt if my barrel had crapped out.

500 rounds is about the point at which any 6mm-284 will show noticable erosion. With real hot loads it would be a rare barrel which would approach 1000 and still be accurate.
The Pac-Nor does feature wide lands. Once they started to show frosting, they could well abrade the jackets to a greater extent than a narrow land. This is the first time I've heard of such but see no reason to dispute it.
In a hunting rifle, this might be less of a problem simply because it's unlikely the shooter would be using the fragile Bergers or A-Max's for hunting.
Boatanchor; Did moly'd bullets make any difference? I was just wondering if moly on a Berger would help reduce the abrasion by the throat. I know that any time a bullet came apart at the long range matches it always seemed to be a Berger. I didn't pay any attention to the moly or not question.GD

My pac-nor looks very good, inside and out, have not done much other than start to break it in, I have very high hopes for it.

Greydog, your post makes sense to a point. But, if a wider land gets toasted you imply it can affect the bullet more because there is more surface area in contact with the bullet. But in theory, there can be just as much contact on the bullet from a skinnier land since there are more of them in a 5 or 6 groove.

Well: I am getting real scared!! My Pac-Nor 6mm-06, has 421 rounds thru it. Damned if I know how many grooves it has, but with 54IMR4831/Hornady87HPBT3700 fps, it must be on its last legs.

Now so I don't get Big Sticks balls in an uproar, I will refrain form talking about one hole groups, LOL! So lets just say, it shoots as well now as it did when Penny shipped it down to me, and yes I have a bore scope. Problem with the scope though, is it makes guys worry, even if the thing they are shooting is, "a one hole puncher".

Jerry-I'd be willing to bet that you can start to worry a bit when you reach 1700 rounds thru it (plus and or minus 100).

Unless of course you go beserk in a pd field, if you do that call Penny and tell her to get one ready for you......(grins)

On the 6/06's I've been around contrary to what some told me I am in the 1500-1700 range when bullets start to go puff about 30 yds down stream.

Mark:

It's nice to know I still have about 1300 or so rounds left, thats a lot of 400 yard+ P-Dogs. You know, I really don't care much about barrle life, if I shoot one out, it must have been fun, RIGHT? I'll tell you this for a fact, I love Pac-Nor, and the 6-06, well what a fine cartridge it is indeed.

Huh...?

wth heck is your deal there fella?

Obviously we don't see eye to eye and I would love to call you and chat about this. So if you want to pm me your name and phone number and I'll give you a call and we'll see if we can't settle this one away from the fire.

If you don't want to get this sorted out then fine, if you do want to pm me your info and we'll get this sorted out.

Make it your best day.
