I'm wonderin if this carbine has the 'MP' stamp.... Chris, you been around long enough to know whats hot,and whats not.Monday morning quaterbacking won't change a thing. That said...I don't like 303's...and the wood finish looks suspect....and the bore is admittedly pitted? Not worth much to me.
When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

the front sight looks correct. it don't really matter the "how" of the bore being pitted...them pits ain't likely comin out. Yes varnished.

Chris, I am the one who asked about the bore. I just didn't think a fair to good bore matched the rest of the guns condition. When he said it was pitted that was it for me. At least he was honest about it. Dave

Serial number and if MP stamped would be interesting and help towards a final solution on the MP marks. Any other savage 99s in high 280,000 to 315,000 should also be checked for MP mark or lack of it. Send me a private message at anytime as I am keeping records on this. BillR

I have a friend that has a ruger 22 hornet . I reload for him I had his rifle to do some trigger work and I cleaned the barrel. but when I checked it it was pitted terribly. the rest of the rifle looked in new condition. there are people that do not take care of the bores in rifles and they can get in horrible condition in just a few years. so IMO it could be in that condition with a bad bore , but I would have to see it personally before I could be sure.
