Not my first kill but the first with this 99. 80yds running across open field, not jumping, one shot behind the shoulder, went 30 yds and was dead when I got to her. 99F,150 grain Hornady,40 grains 4895.

OT On Nov 11 I was hunting with my crossbow and shot a deer at 20 yds. It ran down through a goldenrod field to a treeline and stopped. I watch it through my binocs for 3 or 4 minutes. It was hunched up like a dog taking a crap, then it fell down. I waited a 1/2 hr and it never moved. I started walking through the goldenrod field and about 50 yds in I felt a sharp pain in my left calf. I looked down a saw my arrow in my calf.

I called 911 and they got to me a 1/2 hr later. I spent a day in the hospital and 5 days on crutches. I didn't get back out for 2 weeks to find the deer and when I did the coyotes had gotten to it, but I did get head.

I have some nerve and tendon damage, but I get around ok, just a little slower. If anyone needs a needle in a haystack found call me.

Holy Cow, I've found a couple arrows that went through or broke off, but I was lucky and saw them. Now I'll pay more attention in tall grass and weeds. Good luck with your continued recovery, Joe.

All the pics of the 99 almost brings tears to my old eyes. Dad gave me my 99 1n 1953. I killed more deer with it than all the fancy moderns put together that line my cabinet. I gave it to my grandson when he turned 12 with the stipulation it never leaves the family. Back then if you didn't pack a 99, you were not a real hunter -:) oldjerr1939
