I'm looking for suggestions for binos for a hunting buddy for Christmas. His wife doesn't want to go out of the price range and with the limited amount of time he gets to hunt, this is probably a good idea. She is not willing to go with used, so new will have to work.
I've looked online at the Leupold Cascade, the Nikon Monarch 3/5 and the Bushnell Legend Ultra. What are the other brands / models I should be looking at? Of those out there, what would you recommend?
He loves my Leica Geovids, but there is no way that is happening anytime soon for him.
Thanks for your help!

Weaver Grand Slam 10.5x45s from Natchez...made in Japan(not China) and on sale for $229 right now, I have the 8.5s and they are very nice(In fact, if she isn't set on 10x the 8.5s are also on sale for $199). The 10.5s are $295 on Amazon. Weaver Grand Slam

Anyone use the Vortex Diamondback 8x28 or 8x32's?
I like smaller more compact Bino's... these seem pretty decent, but I've never looked through them - or know anyone that has them.

Amazon had them under $200 yesterday. And Vanguard has a $50 rebate until the end of the year. Several places right now with them at $235 - 50 = $185

I that price range I'd see what Theron optics has. I've been very happy with their bang for the buck.

I looked through a pair of Vortex Diamondback 10x42's today at Gander Mtn. That was the only size/model Vortex they had. Have to say, it was pretty darn nice. Right there with the Nikon and Leupold they had on display of similar pricing. I think it was $219.
I know Midway has them for $129 shipped right now... hard to pass up.
I really wish I could see the 8x32's.

I've got a pair and really like them. They compare very favorably to much higher end binoculars. Offerings from Minox would also be on my radar. I picked up BF 8x42 BRs Doug had on special and they are a bargain at his price.

Curious about what she finally chose. That situation is a great reason to give a gift certificate to Cameraland or One of the other optics places so your hunter spouse can pick the binoculars that fit best but still has to spend the money on himself.
