What ever happened to Roger Barlow? I know I'm showing my age. I picked couple of old Gun Digests from 1973 and 1975. Barlow used to do some interesting articles, and had some interesting stuff in the 1973 edition. I had the chance to correspond with him on something he did once via Ken Warner.
Does someone know is anything about him?
The 1973 gun digest is great. For example: The 45-70 A Century Later by Frank Barnes. The custom gun and knife work is great. Where have we lost out on the stuff printed today?

If I remember right, he wrote an article or two for the Shooter's Bible, too, around 1970 or thereabouts. I seem to recall an article about "sporterizing" old Mausers, but I might be wrong about that. It happens.
There is some really good information in those old Gun Digests, stuff that "the new breed of gunwriters" just don't know about, or have forgotten, whatever.
The Tom Hayes thread a couple of days ago brought that back to me. There was some truly good information in those articles, and I'm glad I saved some of the ones given to me a few years ago.

I read Roger Barlow's material for the twenty or so years his work was published in GUN DIGEST. While he was certainly a good writer, many of his pieces would be considered a bit offbeat in comparison with most mainstream gun writing. That's not a criticism; Barlow was more of "niche" writer.
As I recall (and as someone mentioned already), he did at least one or two car-type articles for GD. Nothing like that would be published today, but I think Barlow was a long-time close friend of GUN DIGEST founder and contributor John Amber. Amber wrote similar material on occasion.

Roger Barlow was a car guy; the only book he ever wrote was "The Diesel Car Book". He gave me a copy when I visited with him in 1983. Also, he was a regular contributor to Gun Digest and Guns and Ammo. Seems like he also had a few articles in Guns.
