Actually, no.

When we get the 'Pineapple Express', the jet stream coming almost straight north off the Pacific we have unseasonably warm temps.

The jet stream gets such a kink in it that y'all get polar vortex and cold temps and often deeper in the south than normal.

Example: last winter when Atlanta had ice storms, we were warmer than much of the L48.

We have a high today of 25 and 10 inches of snow on the ground. Wish I was in the Caribbean today.

Must be climate change. We're having an average fall. Some sub zero stuff and about a foot of snow this AM. Bring it on.

Early this week we we hit 3 (at least it was above)
Highest we've been in several days is 32.

Some of our grass still has some green in it - the brome has a LOT of green!

Calling for -3 here tonight, that should kill the mosquitos once and for all.

Rolled out 8 bales of straw for the feedlot critters today, only second time this year we've even 'needed' to use any. Been uber nice but winter is about here.

Whitetails are already on the gravy train, pheasants are starting to peck around up close to the feed.

Got our first snow finally.

If this mild winter keeps up, it should finally get the deer population to rebound from 2009-2011.

Agree. I have lit but four or five days worth of fires so far and one was outside. Good weather for wrenching on the car though.

I hunted 4 days near Luckenbach over the weekend. First time in hill country. Hot, then rain. Lots of deer though, killed a small 8...pigs and yotes too. Thankfully, no snakes.

We butchered 11 big hogs last Friday and Saturday. Thank god for the walk in cooler the neighbor put in a couple of years ago. It was in the middle 60's Friday and Sat. it hit the low 70's. Without the cooler we would have had to wait for cooler weather.

Not great hunting weather for sure.

Hope you're well otherwise.

And it sure got warmer tonight. Nearest weather station has it going from 43F at 5:15 to 53F at 6:15, now up to 55. Our place up on a hill says 51/52 right now. Was 42 most of the day.

Wet all day and last night (1.44 inches) and still going at it with gusts to 30+ tonight. Not good for working in a yard full of trees.

Mooner, does this seem to be a wetter year so far. My first year living in "Potland" burbs. I thought they usually get about 30" +/- a year. I'm up over 14 just for December so far. Seems more like where I lived in Humboldt county or Juneau AK. I'm ready for some of that sun some of ya'll are complainin about!

PNW folks, try to stay dry and comfortable.

That's been our whole season. The only good hunting weather we had was the first weekend in October, and that's a month before our rut begins to peak.

I lucked out and shot a decent 8 point buck last month, but frankly, I will not hunt in this weather again. I've gone out many times since then, and the only respite is if you sit inside a shooting house AND have a Thermacell on. Otherwise, they mosquitoes will suck you dry. Out on a Bug Tamer and if you even try and stalk for a while, you'll be a pile of sweat. Went out Friday before Christmas and it rained AND it was hot. I've said this before, but I just cant see how people "like" Florida or the SE for the weather, it plain sucks.

During "winter", sure it can get down into the teens, but two days later it's back to seventy and of course the humidity makes it all the more miserable. Africa's a piece of cake compared to this, and like everyone has said, this year has been particularly hideous.

A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”

I was in hill country hunting earlier this month. Near Luckenbach. It wasn't the greatest, but it was cool to hunt country I've never seen.
