I just received my new stainless steel BLR in 30-06. I don't expect accuracy like my bolt action 30-06 but what have others experienced at 200 yards and 300 yards? I don't take long shots, having killed all my elk under 100 yards. I bought this gun as a longer range alternative over my 45-70 Marlin Guide Gun.

It is the SS Take Down model.

It is not scoped yet, have been looking at the Luepold 4 - 14.5 x 40.

I have a Lighting model, I have only used the open sights. The day I got I took it and shot three loads that I had for my BAR. A 180, 165, and 150 grain loads. They all where centered on the target but the 180s shot like 6 inches high, the 165s about 4 inches high. The 150s shot about and inch high, all this with the sight as low as would go.

Not a 30-06 but a 358. You might be surprised by the results of a BLR

Nice but velocity is a mediocre 2415 fps

Fotis is doing better than I have on accuracy. I have a takedown .358 as well, and my best groups are around 2". Most loads are 3-4" for me at 100 yds.

that's AFTER a good trigger job.

Still love the rifle, but I dont take it on outings likely to provide a long range shot. I sure love carrying it, though. it balances so much better than most other rifles!

Inside ~150-200 yds I feel pretty deadly with it.

I had a BLR .30-06 for a while, though not a take-down model. I've owned a bunch of .30-06's, and that BLR was one of the most accurate.

I had, and will again, a BLR in 308. Had low mounts on it and VXIII 2-8, out to 100yds the shots would touch. I do not think you will be disappointed. The next one will have the Swaro Z3 on it - light, clear, and compact.

PS - I dropped my rifle from tree stand last year with a Z3 on top, never had to adjust the scope, has stayed fine. IMO one of the best lightweight scopes out there albeit a bit pricey.

How was the BLR trigger compared to a typical bolt action rifle?

trigger from factory isnt very good (or at least.... wasnt on mine).

I had mine gone through by a local smith who has done a bunch of great work for me. after he got done it was MUCH better.

beware that the BLR trigger is not a simple one to work on for novice 'smiths. if you take it to one, make sure he's good with BLR's.

What BillyGoat said. The trigger pull from the factory isn't very good, but a good gunsmith can help it some--with the emphasis on "good."

A lot of modern Browning triggers are like that. The out-of-the-box pull on the new Low Walls isn't usually very good, and the mechanism is complex and not easy to work on. But the rifles are so accurate you can definitely justify getting 'em fixed.

this year I purchased 2 browning BLR`S I really think BLR`s are a very neat rifle in a lever, my 308 with a 3-9x40 leupold shoots an honest inch at 100 yards with a medium handload, my 300 win mag. in BLR I have not starting shooting it yet but I have some high hopes for it and plan on next week on shooting it a lot,with my medium handloads. the great thinks about BLR`S are handle fast,carry nice, with the clip its a dang safe lever, also with clip bullets don`t get wreck like in a Winchester lever with the tube feed . so have a great time with the 30-06 BLR you should really enjoy it.next year my 2 BLR`s are going to montana with mule deer hunt`n. and who know`s I just might get another couple of BLR`S ?
