We're up in Connie's room. She's alert and in good humor; everything seems to be fine except for some pain in the leg, as well as miscellaneous small discomforts that the nurses say are common to amputation surgery. Her stump is braced to keep it straight and elevated; at the moment she and her husband are busy making eyes at each other.
Things are going as well as could be expected. Thanks again for the prayers. God certainly is good.

Barak and Penny
I am out of the country right now. This is the first time I have seen this post. I will be keeping Connie recovery in my prayers.

Absolutely! All the time. Thanks again to everyone who prayed. I can't even begin to express how much it means to us, and how important it is. Penny

Do they have any idea how long she will have to be on the chemotherapy injections? She'll have them every two weeks through an IV. How long that will repeat, we don't know. I guess until the doctors determine that the disease has gone into remission (kind of like chemo for cancer). Penny

Barak & Family,
I don't have prayers to offer you folks and Connie. But I do have good thoughts to offer, plus this.
My sister, who is now 54, caught spinal meningitis in the babies ward right after birth. Her left leg was severely impacted and just curled up under her. Also bladder control and pooping problems.
She lived most of her childhood on crutches, leg braces, and wheelchairs as she had MANY operations to save her leg. Spent mucho weeks in hospitals. She also wore diapers until her teens. She also missed a full 2 years of school but didn't have to make it up because she is extremely intelligent. Kids can be BRUTALLY CRUEL to others who are different!!!
In her teens, she and my parents finally made the decision to amputate her leg above the knee and move on. Best decision ever made........albeit a little late.
She got a prosthesis and her other health problems went away and she just blossomed, miraculously. Trying to save that leg was draining her physically and mentally. She is a college graduate and an independent journalist today. She gets around fine with the modern prosthesis' that we have available today.
She has always lived with her situation since a baby so she knows no other.
Anyway, she gets around fine and doesn't complain as she is happy to be alive. And she is pretty cocky and opinionated and doesn't hold back!!!
Just my $.02. I hope Connie does well!

Thanks for the positive report - looking forward to more of the same. Connie and her husband must be quite a couple. Any chance of a photo of them?

I was absent from the fire over the holiday season, so I missed this. Glad it went as well and it did and prayers will be offered for her full and event free recovery. God bless you all!

Some of you asked for continuing updates. I just got back from an industry conference to hear Penny say that there's good reason to believe that Connie will be going home from the hospital tomorrow.
She's been hobbling around the hospital with a walker and a physical therapist to roll her IV stand, and evidently up and down at least one floor of stairs with crutches.
The other day she got her second round of biweekly chemotherapy treatment for her Wegener's.
Her husband has completely rearranged the furniture on the first floor of their house, and purchased a couple of interesting new pieces.
I think she'll be pretty happy to be home.
Thanks again...
