I scored a nice used 7mm-08 the other day. A Little Old Lady only shot it Opening Day..... I ran a few of the rounds I had for my wife's 08 through it and it seems to have potential. Anyone else have one of these stubby cuties? What are you running? Any red flags?

Why does a man who is 50 pounds overweight complain about a 10 pound rifle being too heavy?

They are nearly a perfect deer rifle for eastern hunters. The 7mm-08 is a great cartridge and I've killed a lot of deer using it. My personal favorite is an older Ruger 77 MK/II ultra-light with the excellent subdued finish Ruger used to sell.

This is my all-time favorite rifle finish by the way.

A 20" barrel is very useful out of tree and box stands. It also provides plenty of killing power and speed for deer hunting.

Favorite bullets in the 7mm-08 are:

Barnes 140 TSXs
Nosler 140 Accubonds
Nosler 140 Partitions
Barnes 120 TTSXs
Sierra 140 Pro Hunters or Gamekings

Dang. I wish I could stumble on to one of those. I had one of the classic compacts in 308. It didn't like the superformance stuff from Hornady but shot others just fine.

I've had a couple of those rifles and they both shot very well. I used 140 grin NBT's with wonderful results. Using the same load, I'm currently on my 8th animal in a row DRT. The bullet flies at about 2850, and just plain puts deer down fast.

I live out West and haven't felt limited by the short barrel and have taken a couple mule deer and one blacktail at some range (367 yds). Great cartridge in a great platform.

We have three of them in our home. Awesome cartridge and has proven effective from short to long range on antelope to elk from 130 yards to 477 yards (muley buck). Elk from 130-360 yards antelope at 260 and 421 yards. 140 Accubonds and Ballistic tips have proven deadly. Have fun with it!
