What do you guys prefer in electronic training collars? I'm looking at SportDog mostly. I've got a lab that needs one to get his training finished. Waterproof is a must.

I have an old Tritronics which is great but the new ones since Garmin bought them out are junk and their customer service sucks. I agree that Dogtra is the way to go I have a couple of Edge RTs and they are the best available in todays maket.

What model are you guys using?

Not sure of the model, but it is one of their basic models. First one lasted perhaps 8 years and took a beating. Finally the battery would no longer hold a charge. You can either give a shock-adjustable intensity-or a pager sound.

Yes, Dogtra with the 'page' feature. Don't waste $$ on that Sportdog.

I've used TriTronics for allot of years....my last one and best of the bunch is a Trash Breaker......can't say how the newer ones are though as the two female dogs I have left don't require electricity......

What ever you get....make sure it has the pager/toner......best thing they ever came up with in the world of e-collars....

Don't know which one is the best but I was dumb enough to buy a second SportDog when the first one had problems. I replaced the second one with a basic (least expensive model) Tritronic about four or five years ago and it's always worked, wet or dry.

Innotek ADV1002 two dog set used for the past several years with NO issues. Nice to control both dogs on the same controller, range About 3/4 mile, rechargeable receivers but the controller does take an odd battery that can be found at radio shack or even walmart.

FYI.....There used to be a place called "Collar Clinic" that could install new batteries....I had em do a couple of TriTronics....they worked great but didn't last as long as the originals...but for about $60 you could get three of four more years out of one......that was 20+ years ago so they may or may not still be around....

ALL the trainers both pro and Am in retriever field trials I have train with use Tritronics. Reason being they are reliable.

I asked a field trial friend about the same and he said the cost on battery replacement didn't amount to a big saving. And like you mentioned that didn't last as long.

When mine went down I needed one right away, so bought new. Still have the old one and may check for myself. He said you can also send it back to Dogtra. You would think they would give the whole unit a good going over.

My hunting partner has burned through two sportdogs on his GWP this year, I am less than impressed. Button failure on the remotes, limited range, inconsistent results from the dog.

I have heard good things about dogtra.

I am still rocking G2 TT pro 500 EXP, I hope to not need a new one anytime soon.

My first one lasted about 10 years. 2nd one is 5 years and going strong.

mines a dogtra 3502, third set of batteries in it but it gets used 5 days a week, its around 8 years old and has been used hard, I wouldn't trade it for any other
