If you win, are you taking the lump or the annuity?

The annuity would prevent me from blowing it all and becoming another lottery statistic, and would insure that I had income until my death or until I reach my 70's. 31 Mil a year for 29 years would be mighty tempting, instead of the cash payout.

If I win I advise you all to buy stock in cocaine. And guns.

Hint.

GFY.

I would give half of it to my wife and probably some more to her attorney (even though she doesn't buy the dang things) and then spend the rest of it hiding from her and relatives on both sides who would be trying to kill me to get the remaining cash.

Needless to say, I'd take the lump sum as I probably wouldn't live long enough to spend it all...

Sounds like a happy relationship you got going there.

A good first step would to find a GREAT tax attorney who would help shield as much of it as possible from being taxed.

The $900M is reduced by 38%, to $558M, if you take the lump payment, and further reduced by whatever you pay in taxes.

I would set up a charitable trust with 40% of the $558M, $223.2M. That $$ would fund scholarships, churches, and local charities in our home towns, at the colleges where we earned out degrees, and where we own property. With the post-tax balance, I would buy some property that I've had my eyes on and would set up trust accounts for 20 cousins, 11 good friends, and my Wife's brother and mother. No matter how you slice it, if there is 1 winner, he or she will need to find a good leech repellent, 'cause there will be a lot of people hoping to share their good luck.

Quit my Job. Hire professionals to advise me for taxes, gifts, charities, and safe investment. Then wait a year before any major purchases. During that year I would hunt and fish in some places I've always dreamed of going.

I'd start with 10 million each to Kosair Children's Hospital and St. Jude's.

It would be tough to work through the other 203 million, but I'd do my best.

I'd have enough left to ensure I could buy the next big winning ticket.

Hmmm...Well for starters I'd buy a place in the Yukon and another one somewhere on the ocean where I can go fishing for a few months in the winter.Go travelling for a while, see some of the places we've always wanted to see. Would need a new gun room, for sure. Oh yeah,a boat too. And a plane. And quads. Also a jet boat. Maybe an island, with guard towers complete with machine guns too.

I was just in a U Save market in Montpelior, Id. buying my 2016 hunting license w/wolf and mt. lion tags and there was a ranch couple there buying lottery tickets. I asked them what they were going to do when they won? They stated " buy some cows, a whole bunch of cows".

I love Idaho.

I changed my strategy a little...got 7 quick pics....a few questions though.

#1. Can I use income averaging for the taxes???

#2. If I was to buy 14-15 sections of property & it would be
my primary residence, What percent of the price would be deductible???

#3. If I don't post pics of the winning ticket, are ya'll gonna think I'm just a "POSEUR"??? wink

By me some new pants, shirts and boots. grin

Set up a fund for the 4 grandkids for when they hit 18.

Pay off my kids house's so it will give them some leeway.

Have the house fixed up so we wouldn't have any worries.

Then think long and hard what type of benefit program to set up,you know to the schools and such that do good things.

Then set back and see how many relatives i really do have. grin

Get all of my relatives in Spain a nice house and set them and their children up with a perpetual income (trust) they cannot use up.

Do the same for my children and my grand children here in the states.

Set up a trust in our local church to take care of the widows and orphans in perpetuity. I would also purchase a church building and property in Rota Spain for the local church I helped established back in 1973.

Set up a scholarship fund at my college Alma Mater for the children of military veteran alumni.

A little more than an hour to go till they pick numbers.

In the meantime, peruse [color:#3333FF]this website and dream...a small piece of ground, 10,000-20,000 acres might work.
