We have 8 hunters currently. About 1600 acres. 2 of those shoot anything... but have actually rarely hurt the herd dynamics. There are 3 more that pretty much fly right side up.
Why cant people shoot what they want? is this deer farming?
every deer is a trophy and you take what you want.
We have different goals. I would not hunt with you evidently.
The problem is, we raise cattle and with that, NO one, inlcuding the couple we have that hunt, would keep defective cattle/cows/bulls/runts etc...
That just how we do the deer too.... there is NO question of you shooting 4 deer a year here. I can shoot my 4 deer within 1 hour or less of opening morning usually if I just wanted to shoot.
But we try to get the inferior bucks out, manage numbers of does and let the non inferior bucks, age, spread genes and get larger...
On the farm we never butchered the young promising bulls after they were proven and were a cuople of years old either....
So the couple on the lease that we have a bit of an issue with, could shoot a couple of does like we do, and a couple of cull bucks or even a cull and an old GOOD buck, and play the game.
Nope they shoot, for whatever reason, the bucks that have great potential, but should breed a few more years and get larger....
I've no issues with those that shoot whatever they want as they see it typically... I just don't want to hunt with a brown down group.
I may have to at home eventually, land is selling around us and could ruin a management program I"ve had in effect since the 80s.... and if so it will mean going from seeing 130-140 inch bucks almost every day of a 3.5 month long season, to having to shoot a legal buck again when you see them if you want any meat. Which in reality means I won't shoot a thing if neighbors come ruin it and run it back to what it used to be, I'll just take what I can smartly take off the lease property.
Yes every deer is a trophy in some form or fashion. I have a doe shoulder mount due to how hard that one particular one was to target and kill....
