If the barrel contour, action length and mag box are the same, Yes they will interchange.

Great purchase. I'd love to have one of those. The stocks are the same from what IS remember. I've had them in 7 mag and .338 mag.

There are 2 NIB Ruger Hawkeyes 264 on GunsInternational website.. Those are a little pricy!!! $899 stainless/synthetic an blued/wood rifles. I got mine on GB a lot cheaper. Mine was NIB as well

I have hunted with a .270 for the most of my life. I absolutely love a .270, For the last 30 years it's killed many of deer for me 95% have never taken a step after being shot. I just wanted to try something a little different thinking of maybe 1 day going elk hunting,

I would look for 7mm Remington Magnum. No premium on caliber plus less expensive and more easily obtainable ammo just about anywhere in the world at better stocked establishments catering to hunters.

Perhaps the 7RM doesn't qualify for the OP as "something different". Besides, he's already bought the 264!

Congratulations, fair enough. I have bought .300H&H despite the fact that ammo for WinMag is available in vast variety of loadings at half cost. In my defense I had .300H&H FN years ago sold the gun but kept very good supply of ammo on hand.

Have fun shooting and working up loads you will enjoy it a lot just don't over heat the barrel and it will last a long time.

Nice rifle! Almost bought one but the 24" tube deterred me.

I am a big Ruger fan an that's the only down side was the 24inch barrel. I have read a lot on the 264 prior to the purchase, it seems the 26 inch and customs 28 an 30 inch barrels preform better. Hopefully in about 3 weeks after my brass, dies and bullets arrive I will see how's she shoots topped with a 6-18X40 Nikon buckmaster.

My Remington 721 was a 24 inch barrel and it shot like a dream. It really liked the 100gr and 85gr bullets. It now has a 30 inch barrel and is topped with that exact scope the 6 to 18 power buckmaster with BDC. Check out Nikons ballistic/hold over calculator it will give you a load of info on which circle to use and which power setting for what ever range you will be shooting and you can print it out for field use. You can use custom load information and bullet weight with there program.

Are you sure it isn't stainless?

You can tell your wife the reasons you bought it.... But you won't convince us that the 264wm is going to add anything to the elk hunt that you don't already have. A good ol 270 win will easily take elk. Congrats on the cool new rifle purchase though.. Also nothing wrong with the synthetic Ruger stock. They are pretty tough and surprisingly quiet in the woods. I understand about the wood stock though. You can find the Hawkey walnut stocks on ebay if you look. I threw my 308 all weather into a walnut stock and it looked great:
